You're approaching this matter without heed to the logics of it.

Qualities are a logical thing- a tying point of all of reality- science is just what we see after all of those small laws and qualities are formed.

You say- life has to grow- that, is not an indicator of the quality of life itself, it is a consequence of most life that we know.

Life has to respond to its' environment- again, plants and fungi have little ability to respond to their environments, and some animals too have little ability to respond to an environment- they grow where it suits them, in the time where it is suited- and that time ends when it is no longer suitable. A flower doesn't get up and walk over to a river because its' starving for water, it sits there and dies.

As for reproduction- that can't be said to all things that, if the first example is true, would include stars, as they are proven by astronomers- to have their own life-cycles- yet they do not, as far as we have evidence, have a direct means of reproduction, asexual or otherwise.

-sighs, and tries to pull it up-

(The other identical present appears to be for one Caster... HMMMMM...!)

(And Gila's carrying a couple similar ones over to Team Future Scandinavia.)

...Oh man. Oh dude, you know what we need to do now?

Ah, I see... Merry Christmas, these are from my sister... And, um... I made sandwiches, and that is my present, but I fear they are now cold...

(Hands 'em some PRESANTS)

Plants do respond to their environment, though! They grow towards sunlight, and some flowers close up at night.

And- how about fungi, or sea sponges?

Can it be universally applied?

-coughs, moving it out of the chimney- You definitely- need to thin this...

Yeah, fungi recycle dead materials and stuff. And sponges, like... they open up to let plankton in.

-starts to look through the sack, starting with the coals-

I don't know why you need this black stuff.

Don't the fungi need to be present on the dead materials?

The sponges I will grant- but fungi are usually passive.

They sprout when they're in, in a suitable location to grow.

What black things?

(yeah, what black things)

(because this sack has so)

(so many things in it that should not feasibly fit inside all together)

They don't actively seek out those locations. Its' hardly reaction to conditions to only sprout and grow when its' suitable.

-mentioned coal-

... I will drop you the anvils. A lot of these things I don't think would fit through a chimney. You are better off going through the door with this lot.

Ah, alright... Here, I will go and fetch the plate while you unwrap those.
