-Has tucked her braids in to avoid the obvious method-
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?{Do you think she'll find anything?}
-Takes a deep breath-
-Has to think for like a solid, marshaling all her memories and trying to wrangle them into a coherent lump-
It's... you need to where I'm from first. That's the only way any of this will make sense. I know that you already know some of this. Tallis, she- told me.
What you need to know about Tallis is that she was... she wasn't happy when she was growing up. She didn't know anyone. Her parents weren't around. At one point, they hired a person to watch over her. To... be her friend, and keep her safe. And... they became friends. The person they hired, she was the only person Tallis became close to back then.
Tallis got older. She figured out who she was with her friend's help. They were almost... inseparable. But it ended. One day, these... things showed up where they lived. All across their whole world. They were unnatural, and they'd adapted to take down that world. All of the people there... they didn't stand a chance.
But Tallis's friend was strong. She kept the both of them safe. She was... like a shield. They survived for weeks, and they saw something come down from the sky. It was... the people on that world had sent out a distress call when it happened. They pleaded for humanity's champion to save them. But he- he was busy. He didn't notice until much later.
When he found out... he went there as soon as he could. What he found was barren and lifeless. Almost nothing had survived. It was all... picked clean. He found two people, though. Hiding under rubble, disheveled and half-dead.
He must have felt... guilty. About his failure and that these two were the only ones he could find. He took a liking to one of them. Tallis. Even though she was a... she was in shambles. I don't know what he saw, but it was something. He thought she had potential.
...He wanted to make up for what he did. And he wanted to make sure that he had a champion of his own. He'd- he looked terrible after letting all of this happen. And here was the... perfect person. Desperate, despondent, gullible, but with something under the surface that he... liked.
He elevated her to godhood. She was the Technology God. I think that was some sort of... acknowledgement of the kind of place her home was. But he wanted someone he could control. People like that shouldn't be kept... stable. And Tallis's friend, she made Tallis... whole. She had to go. He told her to leave. He told her that the gods didn't have normal people around them.
Tallis had no choice. She cast her friend off. And afterwards... she deleted her from every record she could find. Not much of her home had survived, but... some of the records did. She replaced her name with a period. She had existed, but... no one would ever know who she was.
That's- that should tell you something. Something was wrong in her mind. She... tried to get rid of the person she cared for the most. But she couldn't keep that up forever. Years later, after she'd left her home behind, she missed her old friend. Tallis knew she could... it was within her power to recreate things. So she made a copy of her old friend.
A copy that didn't know what had happened to the original. And Tallis was reckless... so the copy died. She made another one. This time, it was... a little different than the first one. Tallis's memories were a little tinted. Her perception was off.
That kept going for a while. A long while. And eventually... her friend got meeker. More docile. She got shorter, her hair turned blue. Tallis wanted a friend that fit her ideal vision, and she got one. By then, it... it didn't mean much that the copies kept dying. She'd just make a new one.
All during this, Tallis kept... deteriorating. She got more and more reckless and bloodthirsty. She got- she started fighting people. For fun, trying to prove how strong she was. Her copies supported her. They didn't know any better. Sometimes, when the copies figured out who they were, Tallis would kill them.
Then... Tallis made the fiftieth one. Me. I wasn't any different than the others. I... went along with everything she did. But I ended up here, and so did Tallis. She- she- snapped at one point. She tried to kill me. I stopped her. Tallis left, and... made a fifty first one. She came back here a while later, trying to finish me off.
That time... the people here and I killed her. When gods die, their soul... lingers for a while. I took it into me. I didn't want to let her just fade away. That turned out to be a bad, but I- I got through it. I mastered her power. I defeated her.
But... I. Tallis missed her friend, and I... I missed Tallis. I had help, but I brought her back. But I knew that Tallis was insane and she'd just crumble if I brought her back the way she was when she died. I... went to her soul, and I took things out. I changed her. I- I did what she did to me.
I picked out the things that were bad. I picked out the things I didn't like. And in the end...
...
I brought back the person you know. After I'd poked in her head and after I'd tampered with her. I'd- I... I'd done exactly what she did. And I knew it. But I missed her, so I felt like I had to do it. Tallis isn't- she's not a bad person. I didn't want to let her be one.
I tried not to... ever do that again. I didn't want to touch other people's minds. I- I couldn't. I just couldn't. I'd be giving in to the same impulses that... the same impulses that Tallis did. I couldn't do that.
...I had to, occasionally. I had to go inside of people to help them. And I knew that I was doing- it was wrong. I couldn't do that. It'd be wrong. But I had to.
First it was... Rennor and Cloud, I think. I had to untangle them. And I hated it, but I did it. And now there's... I've offered to do that for Homura, but that's... it- no. It'd be wrong, but it needs to happen.
And then I went- I fixed your arm. And I told you I wouldn't look, but I'm an idiot and I saw something and I'm sorry but I saw something and I didn't mean to and I'm sorry and now there's something wrong with Caster and I have to poke through her head trying to find things maybe trying to fix things move them around replace them I don't know I have to do it but it's wrong and I won't end up like her I won't and I can't but I might and it-
-After that she just slowly descends into an incoherent mess-
…
...No. I have seen some machines like it, but... I do not how it works.
(Laments his terrible reptile brain that cannot comprehend technology.)
...Oh. Well, uh... Hey, that's alright. Whatever you are, 's pretty cool.
