Why use fancy equipment on a beast when a simple weapon works best? There's less room for error.
And unless your beasts are somehow martially trained- you don't need as much skill in proper combat.

But crowd-control is pointless in a melee. You don't do yourself any favors- none of your opponents are eliminated, and you leave a wide birth.
It only works with intimidation.

One such beast was a former priestess. Even after turning, she could still call upon the gods. Thankfully, a good majority of them are. And I'll give you that one, about crowd control.
