There's historical basis for the conflict between Fae and humans. It began a very long time ago, when humans and Fae first made contact with each other, they didn't have a good relationship with each other. Humans would capture Fae and perform experiments on them, generally to take their magic in often lethal ways. The Fae reacted by striking back in exactly the way you would expect...
At this point it's largely just history, though. And probably not the one her world goes by.
