-to Ace- Get some new material. It's been done to death by now.... -Glares at his knees-
And We aren't a demon.
-to Nel- You self-mutilate to learn magic?
Everyone has their own innate magic, of course, but there are other spells that have to be learned ...Materia are sort of like instruction books. They look like marbles, but they're actually the Lifestream, solidified. Using the knowledge contained in the materia, you use your own life force, spirit energy, soul, whatever you want to call it, to form a link between the Planet and the materia, calling up magic. On rare occasions, a highly magically-adept person — like me — can master the spell and memorise how to make the connection to the Planet without the instructions.

MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon AlchemistYou did, actually.
I'd rather not discuss this.
Sometimes, your own life isn't enough for the spell, and you have to use the Planet's itself, with yours acting as a guide. There have only been two spells like that to date, though.
-to Nel- Then why doesn't anyone do that?

MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon Alchemist"I do not enjoy killing, any more than an office worker enjoys his work, or a soldier his. It's a job, and I do it properly, distasteful as it may be."
He looked at Cloud "I did? Anyway, it seems as though you use the old version of magic. It's rather intriguing. Tell me more."

-Shrugs- From what I've seen here, very few people are bound to their planets in the same way we are. It's weird...
Like what? Anything you want to know specifically? I'm actually kind of an expert on this stuff.

MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon Alchemist"Really, just a general explanation. My version is to basically hack the universe. Say, if I use an enchantment like this..."
He quickly mouthed a few quick words in a mysterious language, and, suddenly the room was yellow, Cloud's skin was pink, and Nel had two prominent buckteeth. Everyone else seemed to be breathing pink mist.
"Something like that. But you use symbols and energy. It's rather odd." Ace's ears seemed to be flapping wildly as he spoke.
...We have something like this where I'm from. But it's a chemical, and you smoke it.
...
Well, what I said before was pretty much it. The Lifestream at the core of the Planet is a literally infinite power source, since life is eternal — it just gets reused and borrowed in different beings. Of course, this cycle can be disrupted with modern technology, but I digress.
There are several kinds of magic. I'm pretty good at black and summon magic, myself — always have been. Other people are better at white, some with space, some with time, and some can even learn magic from the local flora and fauna.
This is one of my innate spells. It's not fire, I checked. I don't really know what it is, but it's very handy in a pinch. -Creates a handful of iridescent blue flames- This is one of the least destructive ones I know. If I use the others, I risk taking off someone's head.
And this is a learned spell. -Creates a translucent, greyish wall- This is a Barrier. Does exactly what the name implies.

MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon AlchemistHitting the sack for the night.
"Huh, facinating." He muttered a word, and the room returned to default.
"It's truly an intriguing thought, and I have learned much from watching mortals."
He yawned. "Ugh, perhaps I should go back to bed. It's been quite a day, and I am starting to like this room, and the people in it."
He shambled over to the bed and slept once more.

He raised an eyebrow.
"Honestly. If everyone was like you: seeing killing as something to be just over and done with, I'd imagine my mantra would not be needed."
He sighed "I wish there were more people like you."
