Actually, better idea. Don't know why I didn't think of it before.
After Avalanche decides to storm the Shinra tower to rescue Aeris — who will get dragged off, by the way — you'll do a bit of running from the law. Head to the Golden Saucer — yes, that one. There's an obnoxious cat robot there, but it's actually Reeve. Have the cat robot solve the puzzle, he's expendable.
MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon Alchemist-nods- They'll send along another one, so Reeve can keep in contact with you.
Oh, and Reeve will spy for Shinra at first, but he'll eventually come around. Like I said, good head on his shoulders.
Why couldn't Reeve be a party member, Squaresoft? Reeve was cool. :(

MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon Alchemist...That explains it.
My serial number. Specimen B, something something something, Series 2. Assuming you're Series 0, the original, they must be Series 1. Zack is still a series 1.5, assuming Hojo hasn't carted him off.
-snorts- Look at me, discussing people as numbers. I'm turning into Hojo.
MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon Alchemist-sighs- Might as well spare you the shock.
-suddenly slouches in his chair and is wearing a cocky grin-
Cloud Strife, Soldier 1st Class, on the job!
-the impersonation is eerily perfect, right down to the voice, which is nearly indistinguishable from Zack's own-

MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon AlchemistNah, Seph, it's me, Zack! Well, kinda. Yes. No. -shakes his head- Lemme start over. I'm, uh... what's Spikey callin' it? -snaps his fingers a few times- Oh yeah! Sapient schizophrenia! I'm a perfect copy of Zack's mind that branched off into a seperate personality, and now I'm usin' Spikey's body to talk! Pretty neat, huh?

Right, but there's the problem of who to send in to convert the temple. Whoever does it will surely die.
