When the gods of old departed from the world, they trusted their ultimate power, the Triforce in the hands of The goddess, Hylia. to protect it. The Demon King, wanting to make the world his own, gathered an army of monsters and together launched an attack against the people of the surface, murdering them and causing misfortunes all just to get their hands in the power guarded by Hylia. To prevent the great power from falling into the hands of The Demon King, Hylia and the five tribes who lived in the surface joined forces and sealed him away.
...Or at least, that's how the legend goes.

NoLegs: They only seal evil because they can't destroy it outright. It causes problems later when the seal gets broken. Even if it's due to an idiot's actions -glares at Matt-
Matt: But he looked like he couldn't do anything! He was chained up!
NoLegs: "Oh sure, it's harmless, let's poke it with the pointy end of our weapons!" Natz was right, you shouldn't have touched it!
NoLegs: I may have mentioned a demon named Akron. Matt here poked the guy with his sword, breaking the seal and - oh yeah - NEARLY KILLING US. Wasn't worth it after you lost all those swords and abilities, was it?
Matt: At least we cleaned up after the misake!
NoLegs: Only because you were mad over the ability and equipment loss.
