-She tries the bourbon-
...
-Goes into a coughing fit-
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?-Eventually gets her coughing under control, pushing the bottle away with a low whine-
What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?...When you have some sort of task before you, and it's nearly insurmountably difficult, but you have opted to undertake it anyway... How do you gage whether or not you're giving it your all, when it is nigh-impossible. How do you discern between that and a lazy, half-hearted token effort. Is it better to just... give up at that point...
...Oh. So an alien settler, then... Well, you can't blame me for my use of heuristics, can you? Evidently, my contemporaries are still mired in the dark ages and bound to the Earth. Even if things are still much the same after the fact, I would at least like to say I lived to see us become colonizers of extraterrestrial bodies.
make it through this year if it kills you yet | 2001-2019...I guess, if you want to really say that you gave it your all, you need to keep going. Even if it feels stupid. Even if you get called stupid.
If you just lie down and die... isn't that just answering your own question?
(she now seems like her current tone is a cocktail of)
(sadness, stoicism, and affirmation)
…
(Is silent a long while, his expression unreadably blank.)
...Even if success in the action path would most likely entail instant death.
...Well. That you know of Earth and its locales tells me we may have hope yet. We had better expedite our damned research, though, instead of piddling around, whining about trivialities that will not matter in the next hundred years, let alone the next millennium. What kind of apex predator is humanity if it can't get its shit together and progress?

-Glances at the mime-
-Goes back to examining a hangnail with extreme interest-
-to Ginnlaug- Just seemed like you might've. Sorry.
