We have also been contemplating an afterlife. Whether it be through the preservation of ancestral spirits as with the turians, salvation for the good and pious in human religion, or reincarnation in regards to the asari, most galactic religion dictates a life after death.

...Where I'm from, all life springs from the Lifestream. Trees and animals, but also people. It's only called a soul when it's in something that can think, because then it gets all sorts of memories and emotions recorded in it. Then, when we die, it returns to the Lifestream at the core of the planet. Over a few decades those memories and emotions are lost, but the life is given to someone or something else that gets born, and the cycle starts all over again.
...There were some problems a few years back, with people using the Lifestream as a power source. Crops started failing, and people got sick, and babies were miscarried, because the Planet was dying. Then a whole bunch of people... they died, and everyone stopped using the Lifestream to power things, and everything stabilised.
