What's the difference between Ass Pull and Shocking Swerve?

I could bring this to the Repair Shop, but I want to put it here before I decide to do so.

Shocking Swerve and Ass Pull seem very similar to one another. They seem so similar that I don't even see a difference between them.

To me, these are what the tropes mean. Ass Pull: Plot twist that comes out of nowhere. Shocking Swerve: Plot twist that comes out of nowhere.

Can someone explain to me the difference between these tropes so I can better understand them?

Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.

The Shocking Swerve is an Ending Trope, while the Ass Pull can happen anywhere in the work ?

Ass Pull isn't necessarily a plot twist. It's really any plot point with no build up.

Shocking Swerve is an Ass Pull twist ending generally for the sake of having a twist ending.

But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you.

If so, then what is the difference between Shocking Swerve and Gainax Ending then?
