It would be really cool if controlling the space over a combat zone gave bonuses, like extra troop reinforcements or the ability to unleash some orbital bombardment on some poor sods. Same kind of deal if you control the ground, extra forces or even your space ship bits regening faster.
Also, faction bonuses would be awesome.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?^ Star Wars: Empire At War (which is essentially "what if Star Wars Battlefront were an RTS?") has that - if you have bombers stationed in space over the ground battle you get periodical bombing runs, as well as the ability to drop reinforcements (as apposed to building them).
It also works both ways, if you control the planet and have a ground-to-space cannon built you can use it to bolster your attack/defense force.

before they went under. Not only does it have a Coruscant skyline battle but shows you're able to go into orbit seemlessly. It also has some larger areas to fly through similar to the Death Star trench run. But really the basic shooting mechanic is fine and I don't seen any need to change that up, I just want more options to be in control of. Like:
- At least two or three seperate battlefields per world, allowing you to make some land-battle choices.
- Allocating resources including troop numbers, available vehicles, the composition of your fleet, possibly bringing in special forces (like ARC Troopers) or hiring mercenaries for specific battles and stocking up on bonuses. They would have to do some external limitations so players don't just make a huge juggernaut fleet that rolls everything underneath them.
- Choosing pre-battle strategy for your troops to follow depending on if you are outgunned, outmanned or if you have the advantage. Choose a Zerg Rush tactic or turtling back at base, a flanking maneuver or advancing to the nearest command post after it is captured.
That's sort of what Galactic Conquest was about. That game mode was the best part of SWB 2.
Of course, if the ships are hovering a few kilometers above your position like great roaring islands afloat, you get the benefit of close air support, enlarged reinforcement count, and an increased cap on the number of heavily armoured vehicles you can field at once... At the terrible risk of them now being in range of the enemy's ground defences and AA. And if just one of them gets shot down...

I'm baaaaaaackThe Force is strong with this one.
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarHmm... Juggernauts need to included somehow, on larger maps. They'd have some of the same functions as the AT-TE and AT-AT, those being heavy fire support, artillery, and a mobile command post, except with more firepower and more positions to fire from... And they can be captured. They'd take a hell of a lot of firepower to bring down, but its loss would be devastating. On winterised or rocky maps, they would be replaced by the UT-AT, either one or two depending on how large those are.
The CIS, to help deal with weapons such as this, should be able to field vehicles such as the Octuptarra Magna Tri-droids, with the heavy rockets and lasers.
Oh, it can be fun to go all out and wish for things that would only be possible in the X-Box 1080 or PS 5. While graphical capabilities may increase there is a certain limitation to what is possible with the gameplay and user interaction.
I don't think an entire starship is really necessary for support (realistically if you are the only one was has one that means you win), but it would be cool to call in bombers or LAAT gunships or other stuff like that. Gears Of War has something pretty cool for Horde Mode called the command center, where you can upgrade from sniper support to mortar support to a full on Hammer of Dawn strike. Call Of Duty has something similar with calling in helicopter and planes. Maybe a perk you can buy for an engineer is to set up a communications center to periodically call for support.
That has me thinking. Aside from Dark Sith Lord Obi-Wan, anyone think that a Battlefront 3 would start adapting more elements from the Expanded Universe?

I think that one of the mechanics for Elite Squadron (before it got either cancelled or something else) had that. But it would still be extremely cool.
