Actually flying into the ship and destroying it from the inside was all kinds of fun.

Yeah! Though using the gunship in 1P was annoying: one of your "teammates" would alway stay in the ship after everyone else had dropped off and then crash into a wall for no reasons.

Battlefront 2 was one of my favorite original Xbox game. I couldn't use Xbox Live so I had to put up with the less-than-braindead Ai but I didn't care, it was still ton of fun.

You guys should have played Capture-The-Flag in space battles. Those had a lot of straight-up dogfighting in them.

But yeah, I hated on Naboo how you couldn't easily win as the Rebellion or Republic. The Naboo Plains campaign map was one of my favorites though.

Probably not, the game came out in the early 2000s. Or somewhere around there.

Man, I loved setting the reinforcement cap to maximum, then fighting a desperate war where a single mistake could put me right back at square one.

Am I the only person who loved the hidden "Assault" mode for Mos Eisley in the second game where you played exclusively with heroes? I had a lot of fun with that grin

Yeah, that was really fun. I hated that you could only do it on Mos Eisley, though.

Battlefront 2 holds the title as my favorite game of all time. I only like it better than Battlefront 1 because there are more game mechanics in 2.

I enjoyed those games a lot. 2 was better, despite some issues I had with it (Hero allocation was really ridiculous- why does every other map have Maul or Boba Fett?-, space battles were crap, and the AI was wonky). Still a great game and I wouldn't mind them making more, provided they went beyond the films and started adding Expanded Universe elements- I want to shoot some Vong, dammit!

I want Thrawn as a hero.

I also want to see live troops in the CIS. Skakoans, Umbrians, Koorivar...

A couple more maps for Coruscant, basically for one massive air/tank/infantry battle would be nice as well.

Yeah, I was actually kind of hoping for that. The Battle of Coruscant being playable to the point that when you died you either spawned on the planet or in space. Although there also needs to be places to go aside from the Temple and space.

Didn't they keep making these for the PSP? I mean, I got Battlefront Rogue Squadron when I bought my PSP in a special bundle (didn't care much for the game, I got it for the Darth Vader PSP, d00ds), and there was at least one more after that to my memory, about the formation of the 501st, IIRC.

In any case, I've enjoyed playing these far far more than I ever enjoyed the non-Bad-Company Battlefield games, probably because of the subject matter =) What I really wish is that there'd be something similar based on Mass Effect with all of its biotics and crazy ammo and whatnot =)

I liked 1 more than 2 because 2 kinda made you play hero characters (you had to play them or they didn't show up on your team). I bought the game to play a stormtrooper, why would I wanna play Darth Vader? The entire draw of the game was to play a mook shooting at other mooks, battling alongside the heroes, not as the heroes.

I'd like to have a hero as another AI on the team, for some reason the other team could have an AI controlled hero, why not for my side?

You could just no have the hero on your team: I refused to play as them all the time - if I wanted to win without the heroes then I wouldn't use them, and I wouldn't want them on my team either.

But yeah, the best way to choose when you wanted to use a hero was Galactic Conquest. Some of them were more fun than others: whenever you wanted to be sure you would tear apart the enemy look no further than those maps with Darth Maul, or if you wanted to show some imperial evil all over the place Vader was the man. On the other hand, Dooku never really interested me. None of the Republic Era characters were all that great except Yoda and Maul - I preferred Boba to Jango.

Also, screw Felucia. Definitely my least favorite map: repressed memories of wandering around walking towards the dot on my radar watching my allies dwindle while I couldn't find anything (and the computer got perfect shots off through the foliage) just popped up for me...

Not to mention the acklay, even if they were only campaign mode. Although I do remember having a CMOA on it where I was the last clone remaining facing off against several enemies. They came up one at a time and I was able to whittle them down to the point where I won.

Also, in 1, remember when it would randomly show a part on the map with something happening? Anybody have a good memory of when it caught something awesome? I remember on Endor I was playing as the Rebels and we were about to win, and I led all of the guys inside the bunker out into the area in front of it, getting there just in time for the game to snap an awesome picture.

[up][up]But I like having them on the team, I just don't want to be the one playing them.

Half the fun of the 1st game was freaking out when Mace Windu just narrowly missed chopping your block off or blasting him off the side of Cloud City or charging into Bespin or Echo Base with Vader leading the way.

With the 2nd game, a couple of blasts to the face and Windu's retreated. Not as fun for me...

Yeah, fighting heroes in 1 was so fun. Landing an X-Wing on them, pushing Dooku off the cliff with a speeder on Rhen Var, chasing Luke with an AT-AT...

Yeah, that's kind of what I liked about BF 1 too. The heroes were all basically unstoppable juggernaughts that couldn't be killed except by environmental hazards. If you use them right in 2 they can still be really deadly (especially Jedi with the sprint mechanic and still being able to use their weapons) but it loses something.

YMMV, I didn't particularly like heroes in the first game because of how they pretty much took over the whole battle once they appeared, especially when fighting against them, as they were utterly undefeatable by anything but explosives. The idea was fun, but I didn't like that being the only way it could be implemented.

But I do agree that sort of thing would be a bit more tolerable if you could choose whether to be the hero or fight alongside them.

Fighting alongside Vader was pretty damn awesome, I have to say.

Is it only on the PC that one can expand the number of units on the battlefield?

Does anyone remember grenade jumping? Ah,good times. It was a shame they took it out in 2. It was a great way to move across a battlefield quickly.
