It was not pure evil, but it was driving Peter crazy by not allowing him a restful sleep. Him wanting to ditch it went to too drastic measures but his motive made sense. Rather than try and communicate its good intentions it then tried to murder him.
Besides this is venom, both symbiote and eddie brock.
Buldogue's lawyerSo I don't really keep current (I wait for trades or for the price to drop sharply) so the most recent I have read was the spider-island story. That said it certainly looks like Venom is pushing Flash towards Lethal Protector mode. Does anyone else wish they would just go to couples counseling? Also last I heard Toxin bonded with Eddie Brock and got turned into a pallete swapped Lethal Protector knockoff because screw having a varied series of characters with similar powers. MAINTAIN DAS STATUS QUO!!!!

But that's the thing: initially, it wasn't a deceptive parasite. It was just a shnazzy new costume. The very concept of it being a deceptive parasite flies in the face of its own name: it's a symbiote. Reed Richards identified it as such. It forms a symbiotic relationship.
The notion that it's just an evil parasite that turns everyone evil, devours human brains, etc. is an unnecessary piece of fluff meant solely to demonize the symbiote in order to justify Spider-Man's otherwise callous decision to spurn it. Given the choice between "Peter got squicked out by it and made an uncomfortable decision" or "The symbiote is PURE EVIL and Peter was right to turn it away, because he is pure and just and never makes bad decisions", the writers opted for the latter.
