What trope is this?

Going through and looking at tropes I've used in my own works, I've noticed a prevalence of Interspecies Romance in my science fiction (though not always in the forefront) except where the setting makes it impossible. I don't think this qualifies as Author Appeal as it isn't really a personal interest of mine (by the way, what is the trope for non-sexual Author Appeal anyway?). Instead, it's because of my irritation with the way Interspecies Romance is normally treated in science fiction  *

and a desire to present it in a relatively more realistic light. However, I'm not sure that this is a case of an Author Tract either - I've never expounded upon this idea in work, and because I'm not particularly good at writing romance of any sort anyway, this tends to only really feature in the background. So, the question: what sort of trope (or trivia, whatever) is this?

Edit: I didn't put this on Lost And Found as it's not about finding a specific trope so much as it is hammering out the difference between a couple of possible tropes in one specific situation.
