The value decreases after resizing, in my opinion.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman. What about stacking them vertically, but each image is cropped so that in focuses only on, I don't know, from Batman's head to his thighs?
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman. My shot. Cropped both to focus on the characters. Flipped, rotated, and colour-corrected the bottom one to contrast better with the top.

The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.I really dislike the heavily-cropped versions, for reasons discussed earlier in the topic (and echoed by shimaspawn.) Whether vertical or horizontal, I think we should show the entire image.
Jet-a-Reeno!Ah, sorry, didn't catch that thing about preserving the composition. I don't think it's necessary, but I came here late.
Thing is, the article is not exactly long and if we want to preserve both the detail and the original composition, we need to have it big, and big images need a longer article, otherwise it's jarring.
But how much is the bare minimum? We can see what we can do.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Honestly, all we need to see is Batman holding Robin in his arms in both pictures. Everything else is unimportant, and your composition does the best job of focusing on what's relevant so far.

Reducing redundant space on a page by taking out the irrelevant parts, is objectively better, due to the fact that this wiki is not about pictures.
Yes, I've applied that to my own pictures, as I've often cropped and redone some I felt had too much cruft that didn't have to do with the tropes.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
This the wiki may allow up to 350 across but that doesnt mean we have to use it and when there is excess space in an image it really does not serve anything.
My personal fav.

Trying the side-by-side composition:
Hmm... I think that looks all right, and the comparison works a little better since the images are so similar in terms of layout. Can't read the dialogue on the Silver Age cover, but it's not particularly important, and you can at least read the "Robin Dies At Dawn" title.
