The changes will be made immediadtely.

What if they moved very slowly like chameleon style?

How bout through pheromones of colours?

Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere.

I can't see that picture, sorry.

Possibly, yeah, although what with them having 7 of the things maybe they'd be able to cope OK with one injured leg, maybe be able to pop it back into place if they have medicine knowledge.

Communication - I would think so, if they're going to be a social species. Will they hollow out extensive 'towns' of burrows, or live in parent-children groups?

Anyway, I'm for bed now. Catch up with this thread in the morning smile

(Oh, drat. Got carried away and forgot my 250 word quota...)

Night! ^_^

I'll let the word count slide... this time -_-

Night!

Yeah like a chameleon

Well I was onyl suggesting one or the other. Coloured pheremones would be cool. Like spray cans.

Oh and heres a close up of the creatures head so far. Added in the feelers which could double for a set of more precise hands and the seventh arm above his head. Thoughts?

How about through frequencies, sort of like crickets only high enough humans can't hear them?

And do we want the humans and aliens to interact at all? Because even without eyes aliens like this that are smart enough could work as some sort internal maintenance check up-thing.

And forgive my vocabulary, I've only just got up.

edit: I like the feelers. They're very sleek, I like it a lot.

Thoughts- I think the head could be longer, and maybe you could give people a glimpse of the tongue?

Other than that, I like AL's cricket-type ability- maybe through the feelers, rubbing the together? The feelers on the upper arm, like playing a violin?

Oops post was cut. Anyways. Heres the head I made it longer as requested and also gave it a serpentine tongue. Long and Forked. Loved AL's idea so I expanded it. I thought it would cool if these things were able to have a wide vocabulary and so gave their clicking ability to their facial feelers/whiskers which could produce a slightly different sound than their front grasping arm.

Essentially these extremities are covered in a very course skin texture. When they rub together, they get different sounds, so one creature is capable of performing the work of an entire chorus. Could be the way they recognize each other. Thoughts?

That works very well I think, we do want them to be intelligent. If they work with humans, how would the two communicate? Does the Nanomagitech allow humans to translate words into high frequencies and vice versa?

And I just had a thought, being from an underground society far from the main source of radiation this particular batch of aliens probably aren't capable of magic on any level.

Hmmm... Perhaps each creature gives off a different 'pitch'? Which would explain how they can recognize each other as different.

Hmmm... If their bodies are scaled, perhaps they can rub their feelers on their scales too?

And they could formulate their own calls like Penguins.

Well Male Adacondas use vestigal claws in order to iniate mating. Perhaps to these guys it could be like foreplay or something?

So, how big are these? I've been picturing them as long and thin, probably four feet long. And we should name them.

How about colouring and sexual dimorphism, any thoughts?

Im all for sexual dimorphism! Colours, pheromones, frills its all good in my book.

So, if they're subterranean they'll be pale. How about something like this:

Males: broader limbs and torso, largely one colour, usually white to grey, some have a combination of the two, culminating in an almost camouflage look.

Females: longer and more flexible, same colouring as males except females show small patterns along back and neck. Tails are weaponized for nest protection.

Both have pheromones to attract mates, but this tapers off the older they get.

That does leave me with a question do they have a predator? It stands to reason they do have something which causes major problems for them. For humans it's more environmental then animal, but it isn't necessarily the same for all sapient species.

Also, mating habits? I was thinking not monogamous, maybe they simply mate to breed and have emotionally fulfilling relationships with five or six others? And I was also thinking since they're split into a complex system, they could have a communal way of raising the young.

I was also sort of entertaining the idea they have a strict caste system.

A predator... Something along the lines of a large worm with very sharp teeth, perhaps?

It would make the underground civilizations something suicidal and it really holds to fridge logic.

It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.

Sorry, I thought of "underground" worms.

I'm guessing they live on the outside, right?

I'd think so.

Perhaps the other creatures may pass underneath the worm's locations, and they snack on them from there.

If the creatures are blind, why would they have patterns on their bodies? And do we want them to have vestigial eye sockets, or not?

Vestigial eye sockets? I'd vote no, because I'm thinking that they would have developed as an underground race, and as such never developed eyes.

Yeah, I'd agree with that.

What do they eat? Are they herbivores, carnivores, or a perhaps some sort of scavenger or bottomfeeder?

I'd say... Scavenger/Herbivore.

As in, maybe they eat lichen, moss and fungus and stuff, but if they come across a dead body, they'll eat it?
