"Truth be told, most everyone here takes a shortcut to understanding that siphons all the fun of learning a language. But I do know someone who learned the language the hard way; you two could share notes."

And with that, he returned to the room, slamming the door behind him.

30 seconds later he came back out with someone with white hair, a white robe and no shoes.

"Kim, this is Cam. Cam, this is Kim."

"Salutations," Cam said, bowing respectfully before extending a hand.

Kim: “Kimberly Bond, lingual consultant, to be precise. First things, first... your last name? Is it Shunner, too?”

(Her notebook is now open to the page reading MONESE EXPERTS.)

"... Ashen," Cam eventually says. "No one here shares a surname. Not Delilah Keenan, not Norah Kiloana, no one.

"Anyway, Curtis told me you desire to learn to understand Pokemon? Let me tell you something I learned the hard way.

"If you want some vocal pattern to always mean the same thing, forget about it. The important thing about understanding what Pokemon say is to understand the meaning and emotions. It's something I discerned when I saw a friend's old method for understanding Pokemon - his Lucario flared Aura around his paw and raised it to his ear," he said.

"Being in touch with how your Pokemon tick is inherent to understanding them. Or you could take the shortcut." He said. "But either option is valid."

Kim: (furiously writes all of this down) “Meaning and emotions, huh? So... there is no unspoken grammatical construct is what you’re saying. Shame; I’ve been counting syllables. Anyways... if meaning and emotions are the key... how were you able to discern this through Aura, first of all?”

"Said friend told me he could never get the exact words his Pokemon used unless he was lucky, but he was still able to effectively communicate with minimal stumbles. From what I know, Aura reacts to all sorts of stimuli, external, internal and mental. Passion makes it flare, fatigue and disinterest suppresses it.

"I never used the method myself, but I have seen it in action. After he took the shortcut, the skill's effectively gone to waste. I know for a fact that Lucario loves taking any excuse he can to exercise Auric Translation, and that he's torn between being happy he doesn't have to do it anymore and frustrated that such a skill is in his repertoire but will never be used.

"He told me himself," he said.

Kim: “Ah.” (writes down) “I presume the shortcut is ‘you give me a translator.’” (beat) “By the way, Ashen, do you know JP?”

"Watashi no jitei wa moeru~" ^note  My ears are burning~ A female voice chimed, causing a gray head of hair with red eyes more piercing than Curtis' - who had returned to his nap as she entered - to poke out from the doorway.

"... Amy." Cam sighed.

Kim: “My... ears are burning? I thought 耳 ^note  “mimi” was ear? Or is this another one of those KY/OY things...?” ^note  KY= kun’yomi; OY= on’yomi

"Rokugatsu, sore wa okoshita. Ima, sore ga chotto wasurete joshita," ^note  That happened in June. I've kinda forgotten and forgiven now she explained, the blue shirt behind her unzipped jacket reading "恕".

"TL;DR, to talk about both ears, use "jitei"," she swiftly explained. "Anyway, Japanese and Monese? You have your work cut out for you," she said, shaking her head.

Silas stretched a bit, adjusted his sweater collar and checked to make sure he had everything in his pockets, "Bishop."

There was a bleep and a computer monitor on his desk lit up, only for a blue Porygon Z to pop out "Yes Captain?"

"Anything up with today?"

"You don't have anything currently scheduled Captain, even your workshop will be empty today. However you do have some priority mail having come from our employers?"

Silas stared at Bishop, and quirked a brow, Bishop realizing what he had said, "I mean Asimov Captain. It says you are to make your way to the Persephone Station in orbit."

"The Hotel? What do they want?"

"Further information will become available at that time. Ezekiel has stated the mission is optional but holds a great opportunity due to the available window of time and that you are the most likely to succeed."

Silas smirked a bit, "Needs Captain Grant to do a space mission for him eh? I may need to break out my formal uniform. I'll go let Roxy know."

Silas stepped out and Bishop quietly archived the email, glad he didn't mention they just needed the alien technology Silas had on board but that would be a concern for another day.

Silas stepped into the improved lounge, where Dimitri and Byleth were playing 3H, Tae, Amber, Oliver, Wayne, and Snakeye all were arguing over paths to take and who to romance.

Roxy was eating some leftovers when she saw Silas walk in with purpose, "Hey! What's up?"

"What do you mean what's up?"

"Well for one thing you've got a bit more stride in your strut."

The mon team paused the game and started staring at Silas.

<Yeah Hoss, yer standin' up straighter than usual.>

<The kind of strut that you have whenever you do your whole Jackal shtick.>

<Quite frankly it's a welcome place.>

<Dimitri and I haven't known him long enough to judge but we'll take your word on it.>

Wayne laughed, <Watch he's about to announce he's added another member to our ever growing team!>

Blackquill poked his head out from the kitchen, <I will gladly accept whatever new recruits Grant-Dono brings in.>

Silas blinked, "No we've got a job from Asimov."

<Who?> Dimitri asked.

<His employers, space agency of sorts. This means we're probably going to space, been about 2 months since the last satellite drop off,> Wayne explained.

Roxy grinned a bit, "I'm guessing it's not that."

"No we got a job, we're heading to the space hotel Persephone."

The team was excited, Roxy did a little fist pump, and Byleth and Dimitri looked at each other confused, how could someone go to space?

"Of course if it's just us that'll be boring, plus I can see the look in your eyes, you wanna do a bit of a science teacher bit," Roxy responded.

Silas blinked, and his frown widened on his face, "Don't call me out like that."

"Be less monotone," she replied before sticking her tongue out at him.

Silas sighed, "Whatever... I'll send out a text. We're only going to take so many people."

"Simple," Amy said, reaching up to her shirt collar to reveal a golden choker she tapped a few times.

A Shiny Ninetales soon stood where she stood, Drought heating up the hall a little bit, much to Cam's evident displeasure.

<You transform into a Pokemon via the many methods the J-Team has found. Even after reverting, you'll understand everyone perfectly.>

Cam loosely translated for her after she finished speaking, and while she reverted to humanity via tapping the choker hidden under her fur once more.

Paul: <No way...>

(Kim- still shocked, picks up her notebook from off the floor.)

Kim: “Y-you’re a Shiny Ninetales?! That’s amazing! Is there any way for me to transform into a Pokémon, too?” (beat) “Does it hurt, I wonder? Because if it hurts, I’m out.”

"No, doesn't hurt," she said, reaching inside the room once again and drawing another choker, studded with a Master Ball. "But I know you don't want to render all that time you spent studying useless. So do you really want to dive headfirst into the madness?" She asked, kanji on her shirt reading "問".

Me: Cool shirt, Amy. Where did you get it?

-Ian receives the text and arrives on the scene-

Me: Can you believe it, guys? A Space Mission!

Piku-chan: <I don't know, Ian... Sounds like a step backwards since we went to other dimensions last time...>

Me: I know it sounds like a step backwards, but you must admit... It is pretty cool...

Piku-chan: <I guess you're right.>

Me: Now... Where is Captain Grant?

Kim: (pauses) “Funny. I could have sworn the kanji on your shirt read 恕 earlier... Anyways, I wanted to know if there were any grammatical patterns or the like in Monese and I was wrong. There aren’t, and it’s not like JP. Besides, just because I can understand my Pokémon doesn’t mean I can’t continue studying. So I’m sure, but I’ll need two questions answered before I accept.

“1: What does it feel like, then, if it doesn’t hurt?

“and 2: regarding the ‘meaning and emotions’ thing Ashen mentioned... I think I have an idea of what he means, but I’ll need an example just to make sure of it.”

"It kinda feels nice. Personally speaking, it's kind of like coming back home, but my trainer says that it feels nice and warm, fuzzy and whatnot. Of course, him turning into a Lycanroc might have more to do with it than transforming," Amy recalled as her shirt read "良".

"Never mind the shirt, it was just on her person first time she transformed," Cam said. "How it changes with every passing sentence I don't know either," he admitted.

"What do you mean, "need an example"?" She asked. "You want to take the choker for a test run?" She guessed, shirt reading "着".

Kim: (smirks) “Coming back home, you say? Well, then. I’ll have to see for myself. I’ll need the choker.”

(beat)

“I’ll also need your last name. Spelled out for the sake of ‘deceptively simple names exist and I have fallen victim to them before.’ My father had a Keldeo which he nicknamed Taran; I was going back and forth between ‘as in tarantula’ and ‘as in [Tarantino]’ before my father told me otherwise and told me it was ‘TAH-ran.’ Honestly, it should not have been that big a deal in hindsight, but, alas, me and my linguistic adoration... sighs [English], you are so confusing sometimes.”

(She pauses.)

Kim: “Sorry. I’m rambling again.” (She takes out the notebook.) “Amy... and your last name is...?”
