-The Unshadow Punch connects, and the dust storm thins ever so briefly.-
-Briefly enough to see Mason, wincing, a foot or so away from Hiro.-
-Also briefly enough to see his Rapidash and Arcanine lashing out toward... empty space? No, over a puddle.-
-The storm kicks back into full gear just before the puddle erupts into a geyser, with the glow of an eye-gemstone in the midst of it.-
-But where's Mako?-
Mason: Well, since you know the School already, you know their specialty. Living experiments given unfathomable powers over the mind. Of course, their method of keeping those experiments in line involved a good bit of mental manipulation, both directly and through psychological methods.
-His voice is moving again — further away, circling him.-
Mason: Now, picture a group of children — oh, let's say 118 — given the powers of darkness. Slipping away into the shadows, wielding claws and curses and lies.
-The dust seems to coalesce into a silhouetted scene resembling papercraft puppetry — cartoonish specters looming behind mere toddlers, as taller, adult figures watch over them. Distant whispers seem to weave through the storm — or perhaps, that's just the wind.-
Mason: Kids are already hard to control, hence the need for manipulation tactics. When those children are given resistance or immunity to those tactics, it gets a whole lot harder.
-Some of the specters appear to shield the children's eyes, while others apparate around the adults to aggravate and torment them.-
Mason: And we all know that no kid wants to stay in school. So we used the tools at our disposal, and escaped.
-From the side, there's a snarl, and a lash of Draconic fire, intent to break concentration more than truly injure.-
-(Ah, there he is.)-
-it really must be established that Mason is much better-suited to sneak attacks than Hiro-
Rapidash: -distressed whinny- <Uncool, dude—augh!>
-Namine's geyser hits right in Hiro's Rapidash's soft spot, catching his Arcanine in the sidesplash-
Arcanine: -angry bark-
-all the while Hiro's scanning the illusory puppet show, trying to take in every detail-
-there's a lot of detail-
Hiro: None could halt the tempest, who walks where it pleases.
-he mutters under his breath as he listens, his Spell Tags catching fire-
But the earth is crafty—Landorus went to the fields in the guise of an old woman, weeping and wailing.
-...and hesitates, seeing the child-size figures-
"Oh, woe!" she wept. "The harvest is ruined—"
-the looming scientists-
"I only hope the storm hasn't found the shrine!:
"If the treasure is lost, the village will curse its name forever and ever!"
-for a moment his burning eyes seem to pierce the storm right through to Mason—-
Hearing this, Tornadus cackled—blew the foolish old woman's shawl upside her head, and flew to the forest, toppling trees to and fro in its careless search.
-but the world's most powerful illusionist is nothing to be trifled with—his gaze moves on in short order, none the wiser-
Hiro: -pausing his recitation- …every last one of you? Self-avowed liar, I've heard your say thus far—grant me mine.
-hand clenching- This is your history—let me update inconsistencies. The current state of affairs.
-arms spread, in the eye of the storm- The best lies contain the most truth, as we're both so surely aware.
Galar has been quiet, liar—this is undeniable. Any trouble's been...discreet.
-pacing, shielding his eyes from the wind- Dynamax dens going dark. Lab records going missing. A few misplaced memories here or there—lost in the shuffle of a Legendary come back into existence, surely that could explain anything, hah. I've been chasing a-a shadow all through the Region. And then that.
-he gestures back to the kaiju-wrought piles of rubble, Logan's commotion-
Hiro: Logan's tired old nemesis, suddenly destructive and wild and angry as she hasn't been in years?
-he takes a moment to look perturbed-
Hiro: ...Liar, this was unlike any mind-alteration I've ever seen. Beyond memory, beyond compulsion—it was like she was possessed.
-ringing Truth- Liar, her eyes were gold.
-it's at this moment that he raises his hand with its Tags—this moment that Mako strikes, knocking Hiro off balance—-
-his Arcanine's Heat Wave strikes like a gale force, but it gusts unenhanced—un-Ominous-
Hiro: -holding his stinging hand, tags burned to ash- Right when I'm this close -he pinches his fingers- to catching up? The storm found its rotten way to the glade—the shrine of the stone that burns away falsehood. Right when I find there's Students among one of the most notorious collectives in the world? One whose operational security's become a meme for how lacking it is?
-igniting his finger, pointing it at—his Arcanine(?)- What's the School doing in Galar, liar?
-The Heat Wave stings, but more importantly, the burning air fizzles away the illusory dust storm, leaving a comparatively lighter, genuine Sandstorm (the move), with far less sensory obfuscation.-
-(Mako's Sand Veil still makes it harder to discern him, but he's there and somewhat visible now.)-
-Namine keeps fighting, because there's still an angry Arcanine causing problems.-
Namine: <Not one for conversation much, huh?>
-She retreats a couple feet, in order to take aim.-
-Normally, it wouldn't take much for Mason to bring the illusion back up, but he hesitates, brow furrowing.-
Mason: ...Her eyes were gold.
-He grits his teeth.-
Mason: ...Look, sunshine, I wouldn't know what the hell the School's doing here. I ran away, as a kid. As a failed experiment. If I have anything to do with why they're here, in Galar, it's so they can catch up to me and kill me, because having Phantom Class alumni walking around is a huge problem for them. But I'd like to think they still think I'm dead, so whatever they're doing, it's not because of me.
Mason: We can so easily talk about this without you shining a giant beacon on me for them to track down, especially if Frankenstein back there is possessed by a Templar like you think. Besides, for someone obsessed with the truth, you were awfully keen to avoid introducing yourself when asked. Here, humor me.
-He holds out his hand — an invitation for a handshake.-
Mason: I'm Mason. Not "liar", not "element". Mason. I'm rather fond of my name, it's something the Phantom Class never gave any of its students; I'd appreciate if you used it.
Arcanine: <Growling noises are succinct and to the point! And I am an effective communicator!!> >:c
-succinctly and to the point, he yelps at the very large, very unpleasant stream of water that blasts his way-
-before it hits, Hiro fires his ember, igniting his Arcanine's fur—-
-which blazes white hot for just long enough to rival the incoming torrent, the remainder splashing against a Pokémon with no fire to douse, tongue panting-
Hiro: The Stone melted the earth into a mirror, a mirror that reveals true forms—the storm turned into a great bird, who shrieked at being tricked…
Hiro: -eye-flames fading- ...Mason.
-he says it like a conclusion-
-he puts the fire-hands down, giving a nod—satisfied for now at…whatever he sees in Mason's expression with his full focus, more likely than not a lot of righteous fury and fear-
Hiro: -going up to the handshake- ...you can call me Hiro.
-his grip isn't burning or too-tight, at the very least—it's, to land a hit on his unconscious Rapidash over there, firm, and honest-
Hiro: -shaking- I can't honestly say I trust you yet, but for what it's worth I'm sorry for the runaround. It's bee
THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENS
Hiro: -going up to the handshake- ...you can call me—
-a Future Sight blasts from the blue the moment he drops his guard, missing Mason entirely—-
-—would be the paranoid way to put it, since it looks like nothing more than a jagged shard of glass, thrown up by the Sandstorm, hitting a nerve on the guy whose name Mason doesn't know and sending him instantly and tragically into cardiac arrest-
-his Arcanine turns to face Mason, the only clear instigator of this, and an established liar, fangs bared and beginning to blaze with dragonfire unfettered-
"Don't worry neither do I"
Daydre stops the petting and very slowly looks at Megan. She seems to be having an awkward time looking directly at Megan, but eventually manages to make herself do it. Her face is bright red where it wasn't before, and it's probably not because of the heat.
"yeah i had fun"

Oliver: That's why we use gloves!
Marcus: ~I guess cold hands are less of a worry when you lift stuff around with telekinesis most of the time.~
-Mason yelps as the completely innocuous and accidental shard of glass goes flying into Hiro, staggering back.-
Mason: Fucking hell what—?!
-There's now a person lying on the ground, unconscious from a minor scratch, and all the draconic wrath of a large dog directed at him.-
Mason: ...That doesn't make any sense.
-He narrows his eyes.-
Mason: That doesn't— fuck me running, this is bad. Everyone, stop— just stop!
-What's left of the sandstorm dies down, though Namine and Mako don't drop their guard.-
Mason: Does— Hiro— have any other Pokemon? Anyone else who can fight, or at least take him to safety? Because something caused this, it wasn't accidental, and it wasn't us. And whoever it is, I— you— we can't let them escape.
-He glances around — alleyways, rooftops, any sign of what could have done that.-
Mason: Or at least, don't waste your energy fighting me alone. Trust or no, you'll be outnumbered, and that'll only make things worse for everyone.
Megan: I'm glad ^_^
-looking at her like the sun-
Megan: -bright red- So did I -beaming-
-she pets Daydre...somewhere, not paying very much attention to where-
-as an expression of contentment more than anything-
Megan: ...wanna sit here for an ambiguous length of time with me?
-he doesn't see a damn thing-
-more unfortunately, the dog in her blood Rage doesn't listen—blood turns to Outrage as sh
leashes all the fury of Reshiram's guardian on th e boy's hindbrain with her deathly serious stare-
—en the flames of hell this one loose end, come o -very deliberately, Hiro's very loyal and good Arcanine reaches down and pokes the best-loved Repeat Ball on his belt-
Parfait the Emboar: <What's—>
-jumps to concl usions and bathes his starter in fire-
Parfait: -unobscure- <...oh.>
-she waves the flames aside—with gentle, gentle hands, she lifts Hiro into a bridal carry-
—she clicks her tongue and several Litwick slide from Hiro's bag into him—you'd expect her first question to be "what happened" or "who are you" or "what the fuck"-
Parfait: -eyeing Mason- <...>
-Monese isn't quite a verbal language—she almost seems to read the current standing of things directly from the stance of everyone in this little standoff, her friend's barely-restrained snarling-
-...and visibly shoves aside uncertainty, laying Hiro carefully onto his Arcanine's back-
Arcanine: -to Mason, inclining her head- <...eloquent.>
-not taking her eyes off Mason-
-and vanishes in a gentle flash of light-
-Parfait turns face Mason more fully, calm and serene-
Parfait: -succinctly- <Well?>
-people—just people, everywhere, rushing to the scene of Ironspine's attack or circumventing foot traffic home or peering at what could've caused such a commotion-
Edited by Asterisk395 on Apr 10th 2021 at 7:51:05 AM
-Mason doesn't move an inch as the Arcanine releases Parfait, and subsequently takes Hiro away.-
Mason: ...Okay. I... suppose she would have been too angry to help track anyway.
-Mason breathes out a sigh, turning toward Parfait and momentarily mulling over the whole situation and formulating a response.-
Mason: ...Whatever happened to him, my gut instinct tells me it has something to do with... the Dynamax attack over there. He said the mad science mouse's eyes being yellow wasn't normal. Dear fuck, that's a sentence. He also knew about the School, so I'm hoping that means you do too.
-He turns toward the scene of the incident again, ready to return to investigate despite the growing crowd.-
Evelyn: Well, if we don't have time, we could always stop at home and rest for the night. I'll ask mum if she's okay with having guests. Is that fine by you, Hoops?
-Evelyn hops out of the tree and moves to hold Hoops' hand.-
Me: Hoops is right, Kim. We should definitely get going and head for Ballonlea.
Daydre looks a bit surprised at the petting. Not bad surprise, good surprise.
"Also yes I would"
Magnavox used Flash Cannon!
Akastuki used Fire Fang!
Kokonoe used Fire Blast!
Mae used Superpower!
"... Wait, the team won?!" She shook her head, having spaced out. She grabbed the badge from Melony and left.
Julius used Ice Fang!
Lucario used Aura Sphere!
9-Volt used Giga Drain!
"... well then," Gordie said simply, handing the challenger his badge.
"Sketchy place," She observed simply, remaining close to her trainer out of instinct.
"Yeah, Leader's on the far end."
She stared down at the challengers from her stage, adjusting her jacket and fixing her hair. A silent nod towards Colton told him all he needed to know. Kamui stepped to the sidelines and left her trainer to get to work.
Marnie's Liepard got to work, clapping a Fake Out into Sylveon's face before Snarling as well, earning a Pixilated Hyper Voice in retaliation. Annoyed at how strong she was subjected her to Torment, earning a Draining Kiss while in proximity. A glowing Quick Claw alerted her to a Hyper Voice just soon enough to make her faint.
A Toxicroak soon landed, a Gunk Shot landing right on Sylveon's face. Annoyed, she raised a Reflect that was soon pierced by a critical Poison Jab. 9-Volt took to the field soon after, a Thunder barreling towards and striking the amphibious Poison-type. An Earthquake shook the barracks, but 9-Volt stayed firm enough to fire off a Volt Switch to cover his tracks, a Lucario coming in and taking a Gunk Shot without even flinching, retaliating with a finishing Flash Cannon.
A Scrafty followed up, ramming a Thunder Punch into Lucario, powering through another Aura Sphere that he wouldn't let slow him down. Recoiling a bit while prone, he looked at Scrafty and roared a Dragon Pulse, another Drain Punch barreling down the middle and striking him in the jaw. Lucario staggered to his feet, staring down Scrafty and firing off a last-Ditch Aura Sphere his opponent was too fatigued to power through.
Some little invisible lad laid the last hits, and Julius made his presence known, an Aura Wheel surrounding a Play Rough tackle. Morpeko clung to Julius, subjecting him to Torment while put up a Facade and slammed the mouse into the ground. A Seed Bomb launched him up but he landed, a Fire Fang bared to burn away the attack.
Marnie sent out her final Pokemon, Grimmsnarl, smirking. Colton and Julius alike said nothing, the latter's Play Rough saying everything. The Dark-type's Darkest Lariat, though, also made its own statement.
9-Volt was sent out, a Bug Buzz filling the barracks. Still a bit off from the Earthquake, the Spirit Break definitely did so, but he fired off a Thunder... Wave. Grimmsnarl couldn't move, and recognizing the chance, a Thunder finished the match.
"Now. Where's Piers?" He reached into his Shadow Smear and drew his guitar. "I'm feeling a collab could be fun."
Hoops gladly accepts Evelyn's hand.
Hoops: Yeah, that sounds great. I've met your dad but not your mum, so it should be nice. Although... I want to see my old house on the way there. Just to see it, you know?
First date, second kiss...
Megan: Yeah. c:
-and thus, they presumably have a lovely evening-
Parfait: -mildly- <We're trained to multitask. I don't think she'll be back until he's up on his feet, though. Y'know, risk of "finishing the job".>
-she turns to look in the direction of the kaiju-conclusion-commotion, contemplative-
Parfait: <"I merged them, Igor. I merged them all—not just the raptors, but the fish and dragons too—!" I was there for all of Hiro's extracurriculars, yeah.>
-glancing at the gathered people, then back at Mason-
Parfait: -musing- <You know the average number of strangers you come into stabbing range with, walking through your average crowd?>
-without further non sequitur, she grabs Mason about the waist, bends her legs-
-eyes tracing a high parabolic arc- <Where on the bell curve...might wanna recall, dude.>
-Logan's here, arguing with some League officials-
-Addie glances up at the sound, and a split second later Logan's there with a hoop for Partait to jump through-
-a good portion of the force of impact is converted from kinetic to emotional—the moment the Capture Line closes around Parfait (that's kind of a strange sensation probably, Mason), Logan's eyes go wide-
Logan: What happened?
-they've got an Ultra Ball in hand and a pair of unconscious round sciences at their feet-

Namine and Mako, about to be left behind again: <Er, what?>
Mason: Uh— wait what are you d—
-And then landing.-
-Mason lets out a quiet, distressed Mason noise, just sort of slumping out of Parfait's grip and laying on the asphalt.-
Mason: ...I'm done. I'm spent. Good night.
-Corrin — human form now — sees the commotion (the sudden Heat Crash) and hurries over.-
Corrin: Mason? What's going on?
-Despite his deepest wishes to sink into the ground and reintegrate with the earth, Mason sits up, dazed.-
Mason: ...Hiro figured out my, uh, history. Sorta. And I think he's gonna try to kill me again the next time we meet.
Corr Mason Again, Interrupting: But that is not something we can worry about right now because that orb was acting out of character in a concerning way apparently??
-He points toward Ironspine-
Parfait: -patting herself down- <Huh, not dead! Score another one for the reflex test.>
-she pats Mason-
Logan: Parfait. Why.
Parfait: -blithe, shrug- <Trial by fire! Anyhow, something very definitely tried to knock me out at the peak of that jump there, but it didn't try very hard and it very definitely was Psychic, which Darky McSmolderingpants over here> -indicates Mason- <very definitely is not.>
Addie: <You're telling the conclusion and not the leadup.>
Parfait: -to Mason- <Eh, don't worry about it. Ironically the longer this goes on, the less I think you're the fucker—which could be an overwrought long con but we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.>
-pat- <You did good! Very trustworthy under pressure.>
Parfait: -apologetic- <Mason.>
-to Corrin- <...has anyone ever told you you look like—>
Logan: -tapping their lips, Addie scanning the skyline- ...Mason, Mason...
-pointing said finger- ...2 AM laundry room on the Stormchaser? You had the three loads of black, we shared that cup of coffee and toasted to "fuck the Circadian rhythm" with every ounce of caffeine in our meager, sleep-deprived frames.
Logan: I have a life outside of this, Parfait.
League Official: ...excuse me.
Logan: -gesturing at the puddle- I'm pretty sure this man has a detail critical to our ongoing discussion. Yes, I wasn't expecting this. She gets in moods sometimes, but she hasn't gone this big in...years. Not after she nearly—continue.

"... Hm. Do I want to do this?"
Rowan: <I can't really tell you what you want. I can give advice though!>
"I don't even really know how to use Obscura yet, what use would it be?"
"But then again I've been in a concerning amount of life threatening situations these past few years, and this would probably help with that... "
"But then what if I use it and people see and people start like, coming after me for it and I have to like, go into hiding?"
Rowan: <Why would people come after y- ohhh yeah.>
"... And I also have this amulet thing, so if that does happen I can just pretend to be a different person for the rest of my life and disappear! Perfect!"
Rowan: <Wait a minute I wouldn't exactly call that perfect, you know we would defend you if that happened r->
Daydre has already switched gears and begun typing out a text.
is anyone here good with machines and shit
<UNFORTUNATELY I was not given gloves to go with these hands!>
<Though I suppose they would be helpful...>
I'm the resident engineer, and special projects sound up my alley. Where can we meet up?
Kim: "Yes. We should."
(She turns to face her team, and returns them all to her PokeBalls before turning to face Hoops, Ian, and Evelyn.)
Kim: "Come on, everyone. We should head to Ballonlea."
(And with that said, Kim does exactly that.)
Kaylan: <Well... I'm pretty sure it's because there are 19 different Pokemon on Kim's team... so there are 18 pairs of Pokemon...>
Oliver: Well, if it's to do with the day it probably wouldn't be worth investing in gloves.
Ivy: I bet you could also get gloves that could help you break rocks.
Oliver: Or learn martial arts.
if you're not these flying taxi things are super useful so i can go wherever
<I should hope I get my flippers back eventually though! I guess in the meantime I could use them though...>
Easy enough to meet there, I've got some stuff to pick up in Ballonlea anyways. Meet you there.
Silas was leaned against the wall, phone out, scrolling through his feeds. Snakeye stood next to him, <What do you think it is hoss?>
"Could be anything, that's the fun part."
Ivy: You could probably find them cheap from a store somewhere...
Oliver: Yeah, I mean I can help build a replica of the team plasma frigate but knitting gloves? Nah.
Ivy: ...Wait, what?
