Yep the tweet is making its rounds, but no one is REALLY sure if it's a remake with modern values, or yet another Gaiden ala Golden Wings.
Not sure if I should be scared or not.
i. hear. a. sound. We have another thread that went further than this, and used the name we have on the wiki, though the definite article is used by every other source I can find. Should we move to that one, and why is our article using this strange title? (Also, shouldn't it be namespaced to Literature or Light novel rather than Anime?)
I am very interested in this show but I'm up to episode 26 and it's hard going. What I would love would be that this remake tightens things up somewhat, and gets an English (or French) dub. It's perfect dubbing material, very globally-minded (more than many shows manage even these days) and very heavy in dialogue (see Ghostlightningpress's blog for why it works so well).
Another thing they should keep in mind for this remake: some of the dreariest episodes are the early all-battle ones. You see ships firing, one explodes, cut to Yang giving orders or the imperials ordering the advance. In the second season they learned to give these battles a narrative thread by focusing on one person caught up in them.
A blog that gets updated on a geological timescale.
Keep going. I found that the show becomes way more engaging once Rheinhard finishes is takeover, and it becomes more of an ideological war via proxy with him on one side and Yang on the other.
Really? I liked the first half better, it was fun watching noble after noble die because of their own hubris, and I thought the show kind of slowed down in the fourth season.
It got old fast, killing the nobles off.
Damn this is a good show, it needs to be required space opera viewing.
All of time and space, anywhere and everywhere, any star that ever was. Where do you want to start? The conservative heart of lotgh
TL:DR The post criticizes the shows politic for supporting a great man theory of history, benevolent dictatorship and military rule. And says that in the context of Japanese politics this is especially concerning.
The arguments boil down to the following.
Everything important that happens is the direct result of decisions by a handful of people, and never big picture economic or social forces, even in the democratic FPA.
Reinharde is the one that gets shit accomplished and wins. The FPA is always tripping over itself except when it's the military handling it. Civilians are rarely competent and good, and they die when they are. While politicians are almost uniformly corrupt, expect for the military dictator.
Yang while brilliant militarily, is shown to be to idealistic for not taking over his government. And trusting people to sort out their own democratic government. However the show at least lets Yang's side make a case.
Man, this is a good anime. Thought, we should a thread to discuss it. I'm enjoying it but its a bit overrated. The animation is mediocre and so is the art, but its very solid. The pace is actually not that slow, at least until the late 30's
