Maybe Blaz Blue and Guilty Gear?
Most are friendly. Outside a few outliers like Smash and to a lesser degree the Nether Realm games and anime fighters like Guilty Gear or Blazblue most fighting game fandoms seem to get along, which is why the Fighting Game Community is considered a monolith by some.
oh yeah, it's really Smash vs everyone else in a meme way
This is still early numbers but I feel the current EVO registration list is a good indication of the fighting game landscape in 2019. Really unfortunate to see DBFZ and SCVI so low on that list but sadly it's unsurprising to me.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughWhy did DBFZ drop as hard as it did? I haven’t really kept up with its competitive scene but it’s suprised me how hard it’s dropped in a year
Also it’s cool to see UNIST doing so well. ^^ it showing up was the reason I ended up buying the game (found like the one Game Stop in my state that had a physical copy), it’s always kind of cool to see a more niche game take a big stage.

This is the first time (a) Smash get on top.
Where there's life, there's hope.I think a bunch of factors played into it falling off, the biggest one being people were mostly into it because it's a Dragon Ball fighting game and not necessarily because it's all that great.
By now I’d expect you have the core top players and scene
There was that kerfluffle about whomever was trying to restrict streaming access to tourneys
From what I've seen people like DBFZ, or is it only DBZ fans that are attached to the game?
Where there's life, there's hope.It made enough noise in and of itself to attract people who weren't early on, but I don't think anyone who isn't either invested in DBZ or the game itself care about it any more.
That's not necessarily a reflection of the game's quality (though I do think some of their accessibility decisions played into it), that's just what happens to pretty much any fighting game that isn't Tekken, Smash, Street Fighter, or Marvel.
There is a bit of a backlash growing regarding its gameplay from personal anecdotes at least. Matches tend to drag on more than they usually do for high-paced games like this and the lack of defensive options like a real pushblock makes the game focused more on taking turns than anything dynamic like what Marvel used to have.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughJust came across this game called Martial Masters:
Seems pretty fun, and I don't know many games where a housewife calls on two men to beat the snot out of her opponent and then take a picture of it.
This one seems to have 100% slipped under the radar.
One Strip! One Strip!Woolie Madden's fighting game intro made me search for that one not too long ago, incidentally.
It's got really good animation and some nice ideas but I can kind of see why people didn't pay it too much attention - it's pretty generic after those two things.
One the guys in Martial Masters uses "Scorpion Style" which involves keeping one leg in the air to strike at your opponent over your shoulder. My muscles get sore just thinking about it.
Calling it generic is pretty on the nose. Most of the characters have names like "Crane" or "Monk".
There's a secret character that only unlocks when the machine has been on for a month straight and 99 credits have been used. I have so far been unable to unlock her using the completely legal means I use to play it.
How about that Million Arthur.
Bleye knows Sabers. They censored chin chin
speaking of generic games
Fighter's Generation doesn't even have that in his archive. That's impressive.
THIS IZA KINGDUM JUNCTION
PLEAZ TELL ME YOUR SELECT
That, iori, and the chick with the golemn are the only things I remember about that game.
I'm just happy SC 6 is a main game at EVO. My favorite fighting game series.
A hero is made when you make a choice. The low entrants stings but I'm glad SC is back.
hope nobody minds the bump.
so Maximilian relatively recently put up another Real Talk episode, which i always put aside some time to watch:
interestingly, he doesn't pin bad netcode on ethnocentrism or greed, but simply because it's "a pain in the ass" to even attempt doing.
weaponizing Dungeon Fighter Online elitism since 2018I got samurai shodown V special , as I had forgotten it's on pS4 now.
I'm enjoying it a lot, but man, some of the AI is absolutely brutal. Thankfully if you lose to a character and continue you'll draw a different one, because while some are manageable(haohmaru, yoshitora who is usually easier IMO) others are near SNK Boss level in themselves. Enja for example, despite being bottom tier competitively(supposedly) can kill you with two of his DM strings which he will land everytime. I've only beaten him once and usually drawing him results in me getting obliterated, I daresay he's harder than any of the final bosses(though zankuro is TOUGH, he took me like 17 tries with haohmaru). Suija is another tough CPU and Kusaragedo as well if only because of his command throw which is hard to avoid and deals a lot of damage. If there's only one thing I don't like about this game is how they don't have stages/themes for each character, just the bosses. In fighting games I prefer music and stages tied to specific characters.
Also the english translation, in true SNK fashion is of questionable quality and riddled with spelling errors, but Gaira telling the opponent to FXXK Off is absolutely hilarious. Totally caught me off guard.
I'm actually really glad samsho's made a comeback. It's still very unique for a fighter even today and has some of the best character designs in the genre.
GGPO, the most highly regarded rollback netcode system, was just made open source today. Not sure how many developers will use it for fighting games already out/far into development since you still need to program engines to support it, but hopefully this leads to better overall netcode going forward.

I've heard of some fighting game fandom rivalries (Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter being the most notable) but are there any fighting game friendly fandoms anyone else knows about?
