It's because the controller is primarily designed for their never-ending supply of FPSes.

"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarI like using my 360 controller for fighters. Works well enough for me.
Although i tend to treat my controllers... Harshly. I've gone through 3 PS 2 controllers, 2 360 controllers, 1 gamecube controllers and 1 PS 1 controller. Their rubber wears off, the buttons start to stick, and a variety of horrible things happen to the analog sticks. I should buy a couple PS 2 controllers before they dissapear from the market, actually.
You are not alone. So sad fact, I had no idea that the Alpha series even existed when I was 9 or so, I vaguely remember seeing a SF 3 article in Game Pro, which I didn't have because I had an N64 and PS 1 (Doesn't mean I regret my choice of console).
It's more frustrating waiting for the asskicking than the asskicking itself.![]()

I know what you mean. One of my PS 2 controllers has its wires exposed and is barely functioning. I should buy one or two replacements, seeing as I bought my console when it first hit the market.

"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarIt's easy on the thumb. When i was forced to use the d-pad for fighting game motions in King Of Fighters 2000 because it didn't recognize the analog stick the bone in my thumb would start to ache and i'd get blisters. Game hard, indeed. I have that game on my MAME now with a USB controller that looks exactly like a playstation one, so whatevs. Even the difficulty curve in the arcade version is perfect for me.
I like the 360 controller for fighting games though because the left analog stick is on the upper part of the controller along with the face buttons. The indentation in the rubber also makes it so my thumb doesn't slip off, but the rubber itself is kinda crap because it's wearing off. PS stuff doesn't.

You are not alone.Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown is coming to XBLA and PSN... in like a year: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=30334101&postcount=1
Too old to be new, too new to be classic — yet I would still like to give VF a shot. Maybe I should buy VF 5: Original Boring Vanilla Edition now, since VF supposedly takes a freaking year to learn how to play.
Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEI pin the dearth of fighters during the early current gen and late last gen squarely on Japanese developers being slow to embrace online play with Virtua Fighter 5 being the biggest single offender. Looks like somebody learned their goddamn lesson.

Yeah, when people say it takes a while to learn VF, they're not joking.
Even so, it takes a good deal of time to fully get the hang of it. When I first played the game, I was somewhere around 12-13. It wasn't until about 3-4 years later that I decided to give it another go, main Lion, and grasp some of the more advanced concepts. And I still don't have all of down.
What a selfish, nitpicking-for-the-hell-of-it moron.

Oh fucking hell
. A whiner AND a pansy.
Soooo...
For those of you who care, some people are making a My Little Pony fighting game called Fighting Is Magic.
They're actually streaming some of the gameplay right now
, if you want to check it out. Not sure how much longer they'll be streaming it for, though.

Shame the Xbox pad sucks for fighters. I usually use the control stick myself, though I'm considering looking for an Arcade Stick for any noticeable difference. I'd like to test it first, I'm not just throwing down $100 dollars just yet.
