I'm not against him, he's hilarious, he just needs toning down somewhat.

(i.e., no animating skeletons until their owners are dead, setting him on fire having an actual effect...))

It's OK. I managed to sneak in someone really powerful if I promised to nerf him.

Wait, he animated someones skeliton while they were still living? I didn't think that was physically possible! I wouldn't have done that anyway.

I don't insta kill, so what kinds of nerfs do you guys think he will need. Him being vunerable to fire doesn't make sense because he throwns fireballs and him being on fire is comic relief in it's purest form.

Ok, what if we give him limited Mana? Like a impossible to remove black band surrounding the gem that limits the output to acceptable levels per challenge? This would prevent him from spamming too much magic, something I never intended anyway. If that isn't enough we could instead limit his magic to limited Necromancy and only fire.

That last option sounds good.

By limited necromancy I of course mean either lots of weak humanish skeletons or one very strong skeleton creature at a time. No villages full of immortal super powerful zombies.

Obviously, I NEVER one hit kill anything I haven't already seen someone else start OHK Oing. Since I do R Ps of my own I hate having my well designed characters one hit killed, to the point that I generally become a KGM after the second villain they do in this way.

Name: Nicol Bolas

Magic The Gathering

Weapons/Powers/Abilities/:

Control over Blue, Black and Red mana domains. See limitations at bottom.
  • Blue: Control, order. Mental abilities such as telepathy, clairvoyance or psychokinesis common. Transformation and mind-control would be more advanced forms. Limited control over time on the upper end of this range. Blue is the mana domain correlating to the element Water.
  • Black: Death, decay, corruption. Black includes such fields as reanimation and the undead, curses and hexes, and demonic abilities. Weak against White (Light, 'Holy' magic, etc.)
  • Red: Destruction, chaos. Elemental magic, chiefly corresponding to Fire. Fairly effective versus artifacts, mechanicals, and terrain.
  • Nicol Bolas can also summon creatures and beings affiliated to the above domains.

Physical Description:

Bolas is a very large dragon* , twenty feet foot to shoulder and three times that from head to hip, his tail easily doubling again this length. Image

Personality:

Nicol Bolas is first and foremost dedicated to the gathering of ultimate knowledge and power. Even before he became a Planeswalker he had little regard for lower forms of life, which was basically most any form of life. He is the quintessential chessmaster, dabbling in Xanatos territory with his more recent schemes. Bolas is incredibly patient, putting into motion plans that could span hundreds of years of time to achieve his objectives.

Underneath this however is a commitment to loyalty. Nicol Bolas prefers to stay out of combat, but when he must participate it is a duel made as honorable as his powerful mental abilities would permit. He is merciless with minions who fail him but supports and trusts longtime allies and co-schemers. Should you betray this trust your family will feel your failure for generations, but if you uphold it you will be richly rewarded.

He is one of the few Overlords who actually did rule an empire, and while four hundred years is hardly a worthy portion of his two-dozen millennia lifespan, he learned some valuable things that some villains may not know- such as the aforementioned trust in lieutenants (and that even these should be regularly probed for any thoughts of rebelling) and that one must pick their battles; non-interference is a standard practice, not a deviation from the norm, and when your plans are underway it pays to remain behind the scenes. All of this experience also makes it difficult to catch him off-guard, any new developments would be viewed with much interest, and he may have to adjust his plans and investigate the causes of such an incident, but it will hardly throw him off his cool. Definitely The Stoic.

Power Limitations:

To honor the source material, I'm placing three limitations on Bolas' power.
  • Bolas can only use spells/summons/artifacts that do not require white or green.
  • Bolas can only use spells that are currently Legacy-format legal. Links will be provided to the most recent printing of the spell cast.
  • Bolas can only use spells or a combination of spells with a combined mana cost equal to the amount of posts in the challenge. The all-lair is exempt from this.

How can you be in two places at once when you're not anywhere at all?

What, Bolas interacting with the crowd, or me searching through ten thousand cards every time I want to do something interesting?
