I'm not sure whether or not this is the same with everyone else, but I'm seeing this trope being misused frequently on other articles. A lot of tropers seems to be misinterpreting this trope as "chicks with big tits" and pretty much shoehorning this trope to describe any busty characters.

I'm not exactly sure what needs to be done, whether or not this trope needs to be renamed or the description needs to be rewritten but there's clearly something people are missing when they're using this trope

If they're positive descriptions of chicks with big tits, then it's implied that they're better than small ones, so we probably don't need to be concerned.

Then that's just gushing about busty characters you like also the requirements of the trope specifically state the character's breasts has to be reference within the dialogue of the story.

That's a problem of all the "appearance for characterization" tropes, people just catch onto the appearance part.

All the other Big Breasts tropes seem to limit them to specific catagories though.

Boobs Of Steel = Busty and physically strong, usually martial artists or amazons.

Most Common Superpower: Comics, Heroes, Villains, and superpowered beings in general.

Gag Boobs: impossibly sized boobs that are ONLY played for comedic purposes

Big Bra to Fill: for Real Life adaptations of a character, such as a movie or TV series.

Buxom Is Better: The official laconic, right on the page is "The bigger the breasts, the hotter the girl. That is the official definition for it, but this is also the most generalized trope to apply for voluptuous attractiveness in general. This trope can easily overlap with BBW or any other tropes relating to a woman's physical attractiveness, but in general this is the most generic trope to apply for a beautiful woman who has big breasts.

We actually had to write the limit on Most Common Superpower in. It was getting used for "chick with big boobs" and then we broke off Buxom Is Better.

Yes, I noticed that a while back, but if the case is that Buxom Is Better should be split up even further, well.... I just think we need some sort of supertrope to cover physical beauty in this regard. No personality types involved.

Pretty much that. It doesn't mean "character with large breasts"; the work has to indicate that having big boobs makes her more attractive, and therefore affects the characters and story somehow.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what can be done about inappropriate uses except to delete them when encountered.

Part of the misuse, if you insist on calling it that, is that it's mainly used to describe a woman with fairly noticable breasts. This comes partially as subjective by the fans for labeling the character as such, and partially as objective because you can't deny she's got a noticeable rack.

Which really sucks considering how many wicks it's already in. Still I think there's still something that can be done with the trope page itself. A disclaimer at the bottom of the trope description, or perhaps a renaming of the trope?

Well, I'm at a loss to suggest a name that would be more indicative. We could put a disclaimer on the page, something like "This does NOT mean any large-breasted character, it means that being bigger is automatically more attractive." But I suspect a lot of people will miss that and misuse it anyway.

One of the possible names mentioned in the discussion page was "Big breasts bias". I'd rather go with that name since it gets the point across that this trope is about the opinion of large breasts

Scrap all the alt name, since they're all pretty much slang for big breasts, especially Buxom Babe, since that name is just begging to be used literally.

Also, as much as I deplore the idea of adding yet again another breast trope I agree with DRCEQ, that this trope needs a hard split.

Hence why I said I'm not sure whether or not everyone else having the same experience. It's in 835 article so how many of those would I have to show to prove misusage?

I feel like the issue with this trope is because of how common and standard it's subject matter is in media. Its practical Spear Counterpart, Biggus Dickus, is far more clear in its use because... it's rude and non-standard to walk clearly around with. To use that trope, you have be somewhat explicit in imagery or text. Large rack? Bit less so. It can just be there. It's only a definite issue with nips. This can lead to much more confusion and less thoughtout entries.

Cap, I think the standard is the square root of the number of wicks, rounded up — 29, here — but I forget why, nor do I remember enough of the statistics class I took 10 years ago to guess.

29!? well....ok it's not like this trope is getting any less misused here's what I found around the wicks

1) Ookiku Furikabutte

2) Dragon Age II

Bethany Hawke

  • Buxom Is Better: For a short time, during the exaggerated sequence you might notice something besides Bethany's magic prowess being expanded upon.

3) Gundam 00 Awakening Of The Trailblazer

Sumeragi Lee Noriega

Feldt Grace

4) Princess Resurrection Silvia

5) Jyu-Oh-Sei

  • Buxom Is Better: All prominent female characters have impressive busts, except for Tiz who is too young to have large breasts - but even she grows an impressive set of boobs during the Time Skip.

6) Betterman

  • Buxom Is Better: Kaede Kurenai, Miyako Asami, Ritsuko (Li-chan),and Hinoki Sai fit this bill.

7) Jersey Shore

  • Buxom Is Better: All the girls have pretty prodigious racks. JWoww's are probably the most famous.

8) Battletoads

9) Unbalance X Unbalance

  • Buxom Is Better: Hae-Young Na and Caroline. In fact, most of the female characters are very well-endowed.

10) God of War

Aphrodite

  • Buxom Is Better: Not only she qualifies, but she also thinks so, since one of her handmaidens has almost Gag Boobs level breasts.

11) Haunting Ground

12) Hidamari Sketch

  • Buxom Is Better - Miyako's breast is clearly bigger than most other characters—except perhaps Yoshinoya-sensei.

13) Honey Blonde

14) How I Met Your Mother

  • Buxom Is Better: After Alyson Hannigan's pregnancy in season 4, some internet reviewers have specifically mentioned how well pregnancy has treated her in reviews of episodes from seasons 5 & 6.

15) Mobile Suit Gundam 00

16) Muchi Muchi Pork

  • Buxom Is Better — Fitting with the whole "pig" theme, the three player characters are voluptuous.

17) Hidamari Sketch

  • Buxom Is Better - Miyako's breast is clearly bigger than most other characters—except perhaps Yoshinoya-sensei.

18) SSX

19) Girl Genius

  • Buxom Is Better: Just about every post-puberty female character, notably Agatha, Zeetha, the white spider women, and Mama Gkika. The Muses and Clank Anevka have pretty darned voluptuous figures, too.
    • The only three exceptions are Rivet, Wrench Wench for Master Payne's Circus; Grantz, the immensely strong monster hunter; and Daiyu, the doctor's daughter.

20) Everquest

  • Buxom Is Better: In EQ1, the females from just about every race has the equivalent of a D cup for that race's size. That gnome may have small breasts, but they're huge for a gnome.
    • The female models in EQ1 were developed by a woman who admittedly wanted them to look both heroic and sexy at the same time.
    • EQ2 slightly averts this trope. The Erudites, Gnomes, Ratonga, Kerrans and Trolls have smaller busts than most of the other races. The Trolls, in particular, suffer from gravity. It's not a pretty sight, but then again, neither are trolls in general. The other females, the Humans, Barbarians, Ogres, and Elves in particular, all play the trope straight. Even more-so if they're wearing a Gi.

21) Fable

22) Final Fantasy XIII Jihl Nabaat

23) Valkyria Chronicles

  • Buxom Is Better: Surprisingly avoided for the huge majority of the female cast; with a very small number of exceptions, the women of Squad 7 don't really go above a B cup seemingly, and the non-flattering uniforms only help avoid this even further. (This is delightfully sensible, too, when you consider that these women are supposed to be highly athletic soldiers who shouldn't have much body fat.) Selvaria, however, does possess prominent Boobs Of Steel,

24) Lux-Pain

25) Beelzebub

26) Boku No Pico

27) Soredemo Machi Wa Mawatteiru

28) Tropes A-C

because of Art Evolution.

29) Luminous Arc 2

  • Buxom Is Better: This troper wonder between Ayano and the Queen whose is bigger?
    • Ayano is D(imposible!!) and Sophia is F.

I would correct them all myself but it's not wroth the effort to start multiple edit wars with troper who have dubbed this trope "large breasts"

That Valkyria Chronicles example was put on the page after I removed the exact same example using Most Common Superpower. I've been trying to discuss it with the troper in question, but he hasn't been responding.

Sometimes I wish we could just nuke the ~50 or so breast tropes. They get misused (a lot) and I get really tired of listening to tropers talk about fictional breasts.

A very tempting propostion at times.

It would seem to me that since this trope has to do the the opinion of a characters breasts wouldn't it make more since to merge this trope with Big Breasts Big Deal?

^ No, because that trope is very specifically about how the character's themselves think about their own chest sizes. Whether they're embarrassed at having them, use them to her advantage to look sexy, wish they didn't have them so large, just plain don't care, etc.

@Hershele: What? That makes no sense.

It means that tropes with more wicks require proportionally less misuse to be renamed, when in fact tropes with more wicks should require proportionally more misuse to be renamed.

No, they should require the same proportion of bad wiks to be renamed, but taking a small random sampling allows you to estimate what that proportion is without having to check every single wik.

I know, but I just think the definition of Big Breasts Big Deal should be expanded to including other character's opinions. Chance is a character is tagged with Big Breasts Big Deal they're going to fit in with Buxom Is Better anyway.

Most character's who are embraressed or resent their breasts would be either a subversion or destruction of Buxom Is Better. Characters who don't care, well the reason why their apathy is of any note is because other character do care, usually in a positive way. As far as those that take advantage, well depending their success it would either be a subversion or exaggeration of Buxom Is Better.

Both trope seem similar enough, least the way I see it
