This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

I’ve heard it was because printing technology at the time often made periods hard to see, so exclamations were used instead
Similar reason to why allegedly comics tried not to use the word FLICK
Forever liveblogging the AvengersPreviews are up for next week's Ultimate Spider-Man
, Miles Morales: Spider-Man
, and Spectacular Spider-Men

Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Yeah, originally, exclamation marks were used for a couple reasons. Easier to see, but also, printers might think a period was a smudge and might remove it, while an exclamation mark didn't face that problem. By the early '70s, the exclamation marks were entirely a stylistic choice, and I suspect part of it was just that everyone was used to them as a part of the superhero genre.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. We now know what the 'spring 2025' JMS project is...Spider-Man vs Doctor Octopus
And a short story in another book teaming Aunt May with Agatha Harkness
Doc Ock is so overexposed. He's like the Spider-Man version of the Joker at this point in terms of how much screen time he gets.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"That's Norman. And Venom. And Ock too.
So Spidey has three overexposed Jokers, basically...
Edit: Then again Venom might be a Harley by now instead. Still just as overexposed.

Please remember that, ultimately, fictional works of entertainment are just that.I mean when Green Goblin shows up, it’s a major event so I’d compare him more to Ra’s al Ghul than Joker.
Plus we haven’t had Norman suit up as the Goblin for more than 3 years because of the dumbass sin shot gun.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"There's a new interview with Dematties over on the Spider-Fam discord, JMD has pitched a Ben Reilly, Peter and Kaine crossover story and Marvel keep rejecting it
He also believes that Peter, being an only child, is content to have just one kid while MJ wants more children
Edited by Zarius on Oct 11th 2024 at 8:45:41 AM
I don't think that's how being an only child works.
Also, doesn't he think Theresa is his sister?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersJMS says the 'Spider-Man vs Doc Ock' story, scheduled for June, is a 'fient' for something 'much bigger'
Edited by Zarius on Oct 11th 2024 at 10:33:28 AM
Yeah, JMS is being awfully coy about the Spidey vs Ock story.
For now, he's confirmed:
- It's not Spidey and Ock swapping bodies agin.
- Nothing is what it seems.
- The "Spider-Man" in question is indeed Peter since some were speculating it would be someone else as Spidey.
- And it's got nothing to do with OMD.
(Damn it...)
Moreover, the Spidey vs Ock story is coming June 2025, so the Eight Deaths of Spider-Man story will have been done by then...
I would hope it wouldn’t be swapping bodies after Slott kinda put a cap on that with the recent Superior series
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
Or, the Peter is 6160 Peter and it leads to a crossover between Earth-616 and Earth-6160?
TIL of Spectacular Spider-Man -1, part of a "flashback issue" month, where J.M. Dematteis wrote a story about Flash Thompson and Peter Parker when they were both 12 years old. It starts with Peter feeling jealous of Flash for having a father when he doesn't, and ends with Flash jealous of Peter for having a kind father in Uncle Ben and not an abusive dad like he does.
They both need hugs. :(
