This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

I suppose you can't really just call a symbiote Bill or something, but it would be interesting to see symbiotes with more positive names.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Deadpool is calling his Princess so apparently you can just call them anything. It's just the 2 Edgy 4 U attitude that has them all use names like Riot and Bludgeon and Hemorrhage. It sort of made sense with Venom and then Carnage was just like HEY I HEARD EDGE WAS IN and less and less effort was made to justify it since.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersRead Spider-Man: Black Suit and Blood #2.
First story has Spider-Man's anger grow under the influence, nearly beating Morbius to death. He even lashes out at and assaults Flash Thompson, who claims he's friendly with and was checking out on Peter. The symbiote shows interest in Flash at the end.
Second story has Spider-Man and Daredevil teaming up against Bullseye, with Peter craving a burger. Between the more lighthearted story and the snowy New York, it's my favorite of the bunch, even if the black suit doesn't play a role at all.
Third story is an unconscious Peter's body being piloted by the symbiote in the middle of a fight against Shocker. Peter wakes up enough to reason with the symbiote to spare Shocker. The symbiote eventually relents and Peter lets Shocker go. Unfortunately, that deal came too late to save Shocker's partner, Awe...
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).RE last page, I've imagined an OC with the Lasher Symbiote and I've definitely imagined making a joke about the edgy/threatening trend in symbiote names. One of the ideas I has was that the host would use some kind of "normal" super-hero name.
Also, I find it kind of annoying that new symbiote characters/hosts are almost always shown with the same lolling tongue look as Venom, which doesn't make sense, because not everyone is going to have the same mental state as Eddie Brock/Venom when they were Ax-Crazy.
As a counter-example, I really like the look of Black Widow's symbiote costume, which looks really cool and avoids this issue.

Some stories in those Black Suit anthologies might be canon, the first issue has a Kraven's Last Hunt prequel from Dematties, but there are other stories in that issue that don't fit like the MJ one and one where the suit kind of devours Peter from the inside (I can't tell what was happening in that one)

Sleeper and Flexo are definitely good counter-examples.
Kind of weirdly, both of them are also generally operating without a host, although at least with Sleeper, we see him taking on a different appearance depending on his hosts.
But definitely props for not looking like Venom.

1940! Flexo is one of those World War II era characters, only slightly younger than Namor, Human Torch and Captain America.
I approve of the symbiote retcon, personally, because what else could he be? If I didn't know better I'd have guessed the symbiotes were retconned to be more like Flexo, but this is more the case of Marvel having so many characters they accidentally created one twice, like with Blazing Skull and Ghost Rider.
Buldogue's lawyer"As a counter-example, I really like the look of Black Widow's symbiote costume, which looks really cool and avoids this issue." I keep forgetting that Black Widow has a symbiote now. Has that been entertaining? (Also, what's her symbiote's name? I'm going to guess something like Bite.)
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.
It’s actually Sliver, with an L.
Edit: Wait, Silver also has an L. I mean the L is after the S. Not the I. Man this sentence is confusing.

It's gonna be fun on the bun!Alright, so that house guest of mine finally watched episodes 4 and 5 of Spectacular Spider-Man.
-She found the misery Peter goes through in ep 4 of needing to pay house bills, constantly missing his friend's appointments, accidentally hitting Gwen with a ball, and failing to get a paycheck, to be too depressing, and even felt it made Spider-Man feel like a job than fun wish fulfillment since he keeps blowing off commitments to his friends to punch bad guys and get his ass kicked. She even commented that the life of Miles feels more fun and wish fulfillment like than Peter's. It was an interesting observation because the whole theme of Spider-Man is that his personal life and super hero life keep colliding in ways that's very inconvenient.
-The parts she DID like were interestingly, Shocker actually telling Peter about responsibilities, and Peter actually managing to pay the bills. She even found the Norman Osborn parts with Harry to be compelling because for a while there, she thought Norman was actually being a good dad after so many scenes of him being shitty to Harry, and directly comparing Peter to his face, by telling Harry to cowboy up, and work hard to actually get good grades. Then in the VERY NEXT SCENE, she sees Norman working with Hammerhead and called him a fucking asshole bastard for that.
-In ep 5, this one she actually liked a bit more because it's about sports, and she loves sports so Peter and Harry trying for the football team actually got her investment, and we actually had a debate about about fair play when you have super powers. She was on the side that Peter could totally play ball if he wants to because it's not like he illegally sought out those powers, and it was very condescending to Harry to just give him the win because Harry was trying his best to win the spot on the team, and it would be an insult to both their efforts if Peter just gave up. Oh boy, she's not going to react well to Globulin Green. She also thinks Peter is a bad friend to Gwen as well, because he apologized to her about the photos of Lizard, and then almost immediately bailed on her to take photos of Sandman, which she thought was pretty fucked up since that was the first conversation they had about Peter constantly bailing on her for personal profit, and he has to leave her on the bus after he apologized and promised he'd stop. Also she thinks Gwen could do better than Peter. (I had to suppress the laughter I had because for some reason I kept thinking about Sins Past during our conversation and it was not a good mental image.)
-She thought the whole stuff with the Big Man and Norman Osborn creating supervillains was a cool mystery and it lets them build up the characters of the bad guys. She actually found Sandman to be a pretty great character and the fight scenes with Spider-Man to be the best parts of the episode.
And that's what she thinks of Spectacular so far. Dang it Spider-Bros and Sisters and all those in-between, we're still getting replaced by Miles fans.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"One other thing spitballing about symbiotes. I'd like to seem more emphasis on the shapeshifting abilities they provide in terms of generating clothing and making minor alterations to appearance. I'm not sure if this has been shown including invisibility, but I don't think it would be a stretch.
I could imagine making some explicit comparisons with cuttlefish and octopi (don't tell Doctor Octopus. He can be very proprietary).
Well, she seems to be liking Peter a bit more.
As for being replaced by Miles, in an ideal world, that would have happened. Peter would have been allowed to retire and Miles (or if we're thinking back to the 90's, Ben) would have taken his place.
Like, Miles is the teenage Spider-Man that they keep trying to force Peter to be again.
One Strip! One Strip! It may or may not help that Peter in the Spider-Verse movies is an adult so Peter and Miles fulfill different niches.

I gotta say, I find it interesting she completely missed the whole point about how Peter deciding to play football instead of being Spider-Man, let Sandman commit all sorts of crimes.
Like there's a whole montage of Peter playing football contrasted with Sandman stealing money from people.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"We still don't know if Widow's Sliver symbiote is Venom's 8th child or Toxin's 1st.
Like yeah symbiotes has always been my favorite part of Marvel since I was a kid, so I'm not against them introducing more. But it's kinda hard to get attached to any of them when instead of developing on existing ones they introduce a new one every 3 months or so. And then do nothing with it.
#IceBearForPresidentI mean wasnt sleeper supposed to be venom for realsies this time we swear final spawn? I thought sliver was just a sliver of venom that developed its own personality after it got seperated from the main one. like how rascal was originally a piece of carnage before they retconned it to be a piece of bedlam

That's the appeal after all.
Classic 90's shit yo.
