This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Great find, thank you! The reason I didn’t post a link before is that the only source I could find at the time was Spider-Man Crawlspace, and IIRC they’re pretty disreputable? They posted the quote I found earlier with a link to a CBR page that is now dead.
So, Shay. What’s her deal? Don’t hear much about her compared to Paul.
If I remember correctly, Shay's deal is that she likes Peter Parker. He doesn't have time for her, between work and Spider-Man, and doesn't trust her enough to reveal his secret, but she won't give up, so Peter feels compelled to try and give her time.
If there's more I don't know. I don't follow Spider-Man as closely as I used to, for a variety of reason(but mainly one, maybe two "Ones").
Buldogue's lawyerFor a different topic, Spider pays homage to his uncle, helps people name children, and protects his identity.
And the best part is, anyone who tries to use this to figure out Peter's identity will hit a wall since his name isn't Ben....
<Ben Reily suddenly gets his ass kicked>
...oh...right...well, this is why we have Chasm now, I guess.
It's okay. Ben Reilly doesn't deserve nice things until he repents for that nothing name.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
Have you considered that he has that nothing name because he doesn't get nice things ?
He doesn't deserve to:
1) Live;
2) Get revived, only to be killed over and over again;
3) Get his memories yeeted out of his head?
Maybe Ben should be kicking everyone's ass and forcing them to call themselves Chasm. Because the boy does deserve one thing: Better.
One Strip! One Strip!I recall that he got his brain broke by agreeing to become Beyond Corporation's Salaried Superhero even after everyone told him it was a bad idea.
And after he broke his brain and thought Chasm was a good name, he tried to become Turbo Satan of Limbo. And rudely, when he took Madelyne Pryor's power, he got super buff but she never got super buff. That's a double standard.
But if he ditches the name Chasm and apologizes for it, I will welcome him into my heart again. And if he punches Paul in the back of the head, he'll probably become Spider-Man Of The Year in the hearts of the audience.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersPssh. Anyone would become hero of the year by punching Paul on some part of his body.
That's way too easy. Do something that really matters.
One Strip! One Strip! He could rescue May from comic book limbo and ambiguous death, the way Kaine did in Spider-Girl. The storyline could be called One More May and it will sell a mayillion copies. Ben redeemed forever and also becomes Uncle Ben and May's mentor since Peter is too busy... I dunno. Does he do anything anymore?

And on top of all that, reveal that it was the real Aunt May who passed away in ASM 400 and the actress is actually the one who's been around ever since. And she was actually a demon manipulating Peter into doing One More Day, to which Mephisto finally gets a proper asskicking for that.
... Aunt Mayphisto
My god
The clues were there all along!

Forever liveblogging the AvengersJut as long as the new Uncle Ben doesn't meet the same fate as the old one. XD
The Protomen enhanced my life.On Peter dating Shay: I've said before that if editorial wants to keep Peter and MJ apart, the best solution is to have Peter date a woman who he genuinely gets along with and enjoys spending time with him, without talking down to him. So how has Shay been? Does she do that thing where she acts like she's too good for him and condescends to him? Some writers like to do that thing with love interests for male heroes.
If Shay treats him like he's a good man that she sincerely likes talking to, then she's as good a choice as any for a long-term relationship. Let him date her for a good few years, let it become serious.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. The first appearance I've seen of Shay is the free comic book day Ultimate Universe / Spider-man issue (I have no idea why they were combined).
In there it's the classic Peter has to skip out on a date to be Spider-man and his date thinks he's a coward and chews him out for it
That part of the issue ends with her storming off after cutting off his attempt to explain
So that's not great?
Yeah, I do feel like the key to selling a love interest for Peter is to avoid falling into the "Peter ditches her and she gets mad" cliche too often. It's easy to mine that for drama, but there's diminishing returns every time it's done, so it needs to be done sparingly.
It also makes it harder to sell any relationship. If the woman is always annoyed at him, then the audience is just going to wonder why she puts up with him. The key to selling any relationship is to show the people enjoying each other's company.
So in this case, show Peter and Shay having successful dates. And show why they like each other, what they have in common.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Shay's not gonna last a minute. The fans won't accept her, and Marvel will only push her for so long before the next writer for ASM has their own ideas. Felicia didn't last more than a couple of months despite being the most logical rebound, and when Peter hooked up with Carlie after three years of build, she was out on her ass half a year later and ritually humiliated again and again.
Peter and Bobbi had successful dates, and broke up because Bobbi realized they had nothing in common.
All roads lead back to MJ. Just accept it and life tolerating this garbage becomes a lot easier. MJ is the only one that'll move variants besides Black Cat. Shay has no name value, or any chemistry with him, and has generic characteristics.
And the way their first kiss comes about is particularly creepy
The fact Ultimate Spider-Man routinely outperforms or is on equal footing with ASM, with kids and marriage added to the mix, just shows this is a battle Marvel lost a long time ago and, truthfully, will never permit themselves to win.

I’ve dropped Amazing like a hot potato and don’t give much thought to other spider books either. It’s going to take something big to get me to give ASM a look again.
New Ultimate Spider-Man has been interesting. A very slow burn but very interesting.

Those OMD interviews are still around
as far as I know, as are their sister OMIT interviews
, just with different links.
The "it's magic, we don't have to explain it" was something
a fan said when writing in with questions about the series and how the retcon would be enabled. Quesada, upon being asked why he essentially responded with "It's magic. We don't need to explain it" in regards to the story, said that other Marvel characters used magic and no one needed an explanation for those.
