This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Depends on whether or not Silk is a monsterfucker
Some people are into it. Just look at how many people want to bone the Hulk
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSlott did some things with Felicia as Queenpin, he set up the whole heel turn and had her almost kill Aunt May and her then-husband. Then once Silk broke off with Peter, she and Felicia bonded a bit in Silk's series, until Felicia sussed out Cindy was going to eventually stop her. I don't think they've interacted since.
Slott also tried to be the one to 'end' Felicia's queenpin career during Venom Inc, but Bendis came up with a better ending for it in Defenders before he left Marvel.
So Cable thinks Spiderman will be remembered as the greatest hero of all time.
Others are there as well. Thor has always been fond of Spidey from what I can see.
Ultimate Cap doesn't count, as he didn't seem to like Peter at first, or at least didn't like a kid getting involved in such things. Which probably didn't help the guilt he had over Peter's death.
Now if only Marvel would let him beat up Mephisto and get his marriage back.
One Strip! One Strip!Cable clearly saw that one war of the worlds future where spider-man is remembered as earth’s greatest hero
Is he, outside of out of universe popularity? Well, how are we judging who the greatest hero is? By what standards?
But no, he probably isn’t. Because he’s self-admittedly more interested in being a street level hero and doesn’t like the higher concept nonsense.
This, like claiming Beak will be The Greatest X-Man in the future, is a lot of undeserved hype.
But unlike Beak, I can believe Spider-Man being remembered as New York’s greatest hero.
If I had to speculate on who would go down as Earth’s greatest hero, I’d say Captain America.

Forever liveblogging the Avengers....Eh. I like Miles enough to be ok with that.
Alternatively, all Spider-People are considered New York's greatest Heroes, while all Captain Americas (and John Walker) are consider the world's greatest heroes.
The X-Men are considered the greatest Superhero team by Mutants. Anyone who disagrees is a mutant hater.
Naturally, everyone disagrees, because Marvel Civilians still suck.

One Strip! One Strip!Theory: Spider-Man being Earth's greatest hero is a moniker they only get after retiring and/or dying, thanks to the latest generation of the Jameson clan building a whole media empire based on lionizing Spider-Man (maybe even printing a "Spider-Man's Pal, J. Jonah Jameson" comic book).

I kinda like that answer
Greatest hero Spider-Man, as decided by an aggressive public relations campaign
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMuch as I hate what he has become from a narrative perspective, seeing things in the context of the stories, in the world that the characters live in, one has to look beyond the events of planet Earth and consider (sigh)Adam Warlock. Hopefully that Magus stuff bumps him down a bit, but you'd still have to consider Silver Surfer and Mar-Vell.
How about characters who deserve it but would probably be less recognized than Spider-Man? Blue Marvel came up with a way to not only stop Galactus from eating planets but make him start kind of making up for damage he caused. Most of Earth is still probably upset with him for that time he broke the moon for punching Sentry into it, even though we, reading the comic book, were like "hell yeah, shame it didn't kill him". Meanwhile most of the aliens probably don't even know who Blue Marvel is and just assume Galactus just finally got around to that promise of giving back he kept making to ease his conscious. Or since we're talking all time there was that time Blue Marvel beat the crap out of that evil(er) Hyperion who had been absorbing all of his alternate time lime counterparts. People are just going to attribute that to the Exiles, not know Blue Marvel did anything because he's not a regular member, and downplay it because Exiles are unwashed mutants. Doctor Strange is another who should but deliberately tries to hide his activities from the world. As a result most people think Strange is that devil worshiper who destroyed Hulk's planet with a rocket.
It's going to be Ben Grim the Thing for Earth and much of space for how he heroically stood up to Galactus and Champion. It's going to be Silver Surfer for most of space, if it isn't Mar-Vell. It's going to be Thor, MAYBE Venus, Mercury or Bast among the gods. Among time travelers and alternate universe what not probably X-Man or Blink, unless you hate mutants, then Man-Thing will be the greatest hero. Spider-Man is just real world popularity shilling. In the story itself Spider-Man is seen as creepy and annoying.
Buldogue's lawyerThat's kind of how Spider-Man: Reign was. Except Jameson refuses to die
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

I knew that Ends of the Earth was meant to have Black Cat in it - I have seen the page Slott talks about there - but didn't know that he'd have the same "death" for her and use that to set up her Heel–Face Turn.
Though... it doesn't make as much sense to me if he'd put Silver Sable in that role and then just resolve it later in the most anti-climactic way (25 issues into the relaunch, she reappears and is like "oh yeah i faked my death and escaped").
And yeah, much better reason for Felicia to turn evil then what we got... but was it even him that wrote her following arc, though?
She gets hit in Superior, and becomes an enemy. But she becomes Queenpin in... Silk, doesn't she? And makes up with Peter in Spencer's run?
How much did Slott actually have to do with her story after Superior?
