This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Has anyone really dug into the other unique power he has with the camouflaging?
And I remember it was a problem when Bendis was still writing where the venom blast would solve all the problems. If it’s getting buffed, has it stopped being the end all fight ender?

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI mean, I would hope so
He’s supposed to be a big tough durable guy
Forever liveblogging the AvengersRhino is the kind of guy who can trade blows with the Hulk.
Heck, Spider-Man usually has to outsmart him, because Rhino is far superior in terms of physical strength and can tank Spider-Man's hits.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"If Rhino can get one shot with a taser then something has gone deeply stupid on the writing side of things
Forever liveblogging the AvengersEmbarrassing
Remember how Venom spent a significant portion of Maximum Carnage completely helpless over a normal campfire?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOkay, TBF, IIRC, Venom was just playing along so he could disable something that Carnage had. I vaguely remember that when he made his escape he boasted to Carnage that he could have done so at any point.
Or maybe he was bullshitting. It's been a while.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"I don’t think Carnage had anything to disable in Maximum Carnage
He and the carnage crew were just causing problems on purpose
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think he stole that sonic gun from Venom who stole it from Spider-Man who stole it from Reed Richards who is not getting reimbursed.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe escalation with Miles' Venom Strike is genuinely insane. Like, you look back at the original Ultimate comics where Miles debuted and it's handled so sensibly. It works like actual spider venom (paralyzing or weakening people), he has to touch them firmly to use it right, and while it's certainly a powerful weapon it's not extraordinarily so and stronger enemies can shrug it off or take lots of doses to feel it's affects. Then you skip to only a few years later and it's suddenly lightning that Miles can cast out of his hands and make laser swords with and can bring down people like fucking Blackheart, a literal demon. Like, oh yeah, the famous spider ability to SHOOT BOLTS OF ELECTRICITY from their limbs. And then you throw in his camo powers and he's basically unstoppable.
I genuinely think the problem may have arisen partly because Miles' early uses of it used electric-like drawings to indicate people being hit with the Venom Strikes and some idiot misinterpreted that as some kind of electricity and it bloomed out of control from there. It becoming game-breakingly strong has no such excuse. Nor, really, does taking a black superhero with a unique powerset and dumbing him down into just another Electric Black Guy.
I'm reminded of some Gag Dub of the Miles Morales game I saw awhile back where the dubbers kept making cracks about how they seemed to be trying to make Miles so unbeatable and badass and super-diverse in terms of power that it renders Peter unnecessary.
Now Spider-Boy has a poison bite that’s more like the original idea of Miles’ venom. And it’s awkward enough to use and makes him look monstery in a way he doesn’t like that it’s not used to solve every fight
Also, geez, it sure was a choice to give Miles a move with the same name as a prominent spider frenemy

Forever liveblogging the AvengersCody Ziglar is also an obvious anime and video game fan with how many references he incorporates into the dialogue and choreography (i.e. referring to the Humongous Mecha Frost Pharaoh has as a Gundam and using a Manji Kick against Rabble).
The Venom Saber is an explicit reference to Gundam's Beam Saber's, Kuwabara's Spirit Sword, and Vegito's similar sword attack.
I get the complaints with it because it leans Miles into being much more of an Electric Black Guy type of character than a spider-themed hero. But at the same time he and Frederico Vincentini clearly have a lot of love for their work and are clearly trying to move Miles' status quo along. So I can honestly look past the constant nerdy references if it means Miles has a more dynamic story than what editorial is imposing on Peter.

I don’t think electricity works that way
But if it does, that means Wasp can make sword too since she also goes pew pew with bio electricity
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAmusingly apparently the venom blast is why Miles was underused in the 2017 cartoon.
Because the show turned every antagonist into a gadget foe, that wound up making Miles a gamebreaker power because his venom blast functions like an emp blast and can short-circuit all the badguy tech, trivializing most of the villains.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
With an unapolagetic anime fan writing his series, I'm suprised he hasn't already. And ngl i think that would be kinda cool.

It's gonna be fun on the bun!
They could if he wore that hideous outfit he wears at the end of the PS 5 game.

Hell at times Spidey would spend a fight doing nothing but betting his ass kicked as he waits for students like Gwen and Anya to solve the problem for him.
