This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Don't forget fans like my guest think the massive amounts of Spider-People are integral to Spider-man thanks to the movies.
Every time I have casual conversations with family members who only know the movies, things turn to "Oh I like Hobie Brown Spider-Man the most." "I heard Pavitr Prabhakar has his own comic series"
Oh boy, I could not tell him the Spider-Man india comics were not accurate to the one in the movie.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"The constant 'I swear, this is the last one' Spider-Verse comic events don't help. XD
OOH! you could show her the Spider-Wars cartoon event, which paved the way for the modern takes and has Peter reflecting on how after everything he likes his life!

The Protomen enhanced my life.First three pages of Ultimate Spider-Man #5 are up now!
E.D.N.O.I.A.D: Even dead, Norman Osborn is a dick.
Real talk, will we be seeing Aunt May's last seconds, too?

"And what does Green Goblin know of the true status of the world he lives in?"
Uh oh.
The Protomen enhanced my life.I do kinda appreciate spider man unlimited for the ideas. That I wish some would be imported back. Like they did green goblin (and tbh it probably is meant to br Harry) as a friend and partner to Peter before ultimate and there Verison of vulture is one of my favs. A sauve antihero.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."You know what I'm picking up from the discussion about Spider-Man's silver age era is that it's basically a dead horse trope nowadays. Literally everything about it has culturally changed and thanks to the sliding timeline it makes Peter Parker and his supporting cast look much worse in comparison.
The only thing that seems that it can be kept are mainly the origin e.g. Ostracised Peter Parker gets bit by a radioactive/genetically-altered spider, starts acting like a dick when the power goes to his head, which inadvertantly gets Uncle Ben killed, and he learns the famous motto. Other than that everything else has culturally changed.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!"Part of her arguments about why Spectacular Pete should confide in with Gwen and Harry is that he can actually share the burden of being Spider-Man with his friends. Ganke is like really good support for Miles, and so is Hailey who my guest actually likes with Miles."
You should mention that the game version of Ganke is pretty idealized compared to his original comic counterpart, who was guilty of being loose-tongued and revealing Miles' secret without his consent.
Ganke along with Ultimate Katie Bishop really showed the pitfalls of revealing your secrets to people. Its actually a important lesson to teach children that unconditionally trusting in people doesn't always lead to positive outcomes. (Sorry Raya and the Last Dragon)
I feel like the Romita era resonated with readers at the time cause Peter was allowed to have proper friends compared to the mostly friendless Ditko era and the returning cast had matured, like Flash joining the Army.
The Protomen enhanced my life. The influx of new fans who came in cause of Spider-Verse shows an interesting distinction between casual fans who just watch movies and fans who engage in the comics.
Movie fans see the spider-people and think they are cool but comic fans find them a bit annoying because the concepts gotten very redundant.
As it turns out having a hundred characters with the same powers is not the bastion of creavity people think it is. They don't have to deal with the character overload cause they just watch the movies.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I like specific spider-people with cool stories and some of the sillier ones, but the massive amounts are a bit much.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Anyone else want to move to 616 too? Might as well do something about 65 if she's moving from there.
Looks as though Everything's back to normal in ASM, and they've hit ASM#950, which will be another big battle with Tombstone, who appears to still be Kingpin in this part of the timeline (Fisk having reclaimed the role over in Daredevil)
And a new anthology focusing on Peter's aggressive streaks in the black costume...writers include J.M Dematties, and...J.MICHEAL STRAZYNSKI!
Edited by Zarius on May 23rd 2024 at 9:25:45 AM
JMS's story for the anthology sounds interesting and it can rather temptingly be an Author's Saving Throw or a Fix Fic
It's revealed a piece of the symbiote never left Peter and had been plotting to tear Peter apart emotionally. All of a sudden this is an excuse for every aggressive or boneheaded act Peter has ever had in the comics, like hitting Mary Jane or even agreeing with Mephisto
Edited by Zarius on May 24th 2024 at 3:00:05 AM
No, there's no hope that they'll even allow JMS to undo Mephisto's deal.
Best to abandon hope for 616 Spider-Man and start anew with a different Spider-Man.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"We've all just gotta wait 20 some odd years and wait for One of Us to become the new editor for Spider-Man, then it'll be retconned.
It's gonna be fun on the bun!The dumbest part is that they actually have a back door ready to keep Good Guy Norman since they retonned the sins as a full on split personality and Good Guy Norman Osborn is still his own man.
Just wow. Synergy much?
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"

Honestly, this whole experience of looking at the next generation of fans, both RedHunter's thing and others I've seen online, is quite fascinating. For as many of Marvel's attempts at legacy characters end up not working, seeing one of the ones that did evolve like this is interesting. There's an entire generation of fans now that have always seen Miles as an integral part of the mythos and sometimes even prefer him. Is this how Barry Allen fans felt about Wally West, I wonder? (I mean, normal Barry Allen fans, not people like Dan DiDio. We all know how that went.)
