Spider-Man General Discussion

Go To

This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.

  • Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
  • Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
  • Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.

Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

     Original Thread OP
Since everyone likes talking about him. I know little about him(Ironically,I got nearly all I know about him from a Batman thread),but he's apparently important so I made this thread. Enjoy.

Yeah, Spider-Man dealing with a massive gang war is up his alley.

Heck, Spectacular Spider-Man had an arc with a three faction gang war between Doc Ock, Tombstone, and Silvermane.

And then a four way fight with those three and Spidey as a climax.

Tombstone actually had a shot at taking out Spiderman right then and there when Ock suggested lets just kill him first, but unfortunately, the fight had spilled out in front of multiple witnesses and Lincoln couldn't afford to kill the webslinger while so many people were watching.

One of the problems with only pretending to be a good guy. You gotta keep being a good guy even when it might pay to be the bad guy.

[up][up][up] he’s still an amnesiac priest? Six issues into the run? That actually sounds pretty interesting. How does the story work?

Just going to ask again since I did so on a last post (Before another page was added to the thread).

Anyone reading Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars Battleworld?

Anyone got Issue 2 of that and the first of USM. Busy finishing some library reads, but will be moving on to these soon.

Is it just me, or is that another character whose presence in the first arc was kept very quiet?

Compared to the repeated leaks of Wells' ASM twists, this is a tight ship.

Peter starting out in a black costume before he gets the red and blues is an interesting twist.

Also lol at that variant that's Peter flipping the "tiger, you just hit the jackpot" line back on MJ.

[up][up][up][up][up][up]I've been reading it. A fun little throw back but I'm unsure of why its a thing they decided to insert into the marvel superheroes secret wars.

Prediction: It's a fakeout, nothing to do with the symbiote. He's just using plain black material at first because it's cheaper and easier, and then at some point someone will tell him to brand himself better.

Although with how different and underused Venom was in the Ultimate Universe, maybe Hickman will take this opportunity to cook. On the other other hand, we already have a glut of symbiote nonsense and what could Hickman do that's as good as Ewing's cooking

Wait, I thought that suit is just something made by Stark and not literally a symbiote.

It could be the symbiote, like part of 616 venom, maker used it to go to 1610 before he decided to make his own universe with blackjack and hookers

Well the symbiote in the OG Ultimate verse was an artificial suit, sooo....

The only thing that worries me about USM is that - so far - we've only had a single panel of Peter as Spider-Man.

We have little idea what the first big arc will be, what kind of Spider-Man he'll be or what impact this will have on his family and supporting cast. I am not assuming the first issue pre-origin status quo is the status quo.

And, yes, that first issue was very good. But many people are such high hopes for a happy Peter and MJ living the life Earth-616 couldn't deliver that I wonder if this can realistically meet them.

[up] Yeah, if I recall, when Renew Your Vows was running, some fans really got angsty about MJ keeping her use of the Venom symbiote a secret from Peter and looked at it as grounds for divorce and all manner of proof their relationship was going to be toxic, and then Peter and MJ approached that situation with trust and understanding so they all stopped talking about it.

Slott's Superior Storytime

Peter finds Doc Ock's old Master Planner headquarters is still in operation, and houses the remaining minions from Otto's web swinging days. None of them know Otto handed Peter back his body, so they are accepting of Peter when he intrudes upon them. Otto instructs Pete to beat the minions up as it was a regular part of their training exercises.

Peter gets Nostalgic about the base, and decides to tell Otto all about his moment of personal triumph from "If This Be My Destiny"

[up]That sounds like an absolute ass direction. That's the best they could come up with? For as much crap as I give the Dennis Hallum Spider-Woman run, at least he was genuinely committed to having her being a mom instead of pulling bullshit like that.

News from Marvel solicits for April

Ultimate Spider-Man#4 promises some drama in the personal life of Peter Parker (doesn't specify if it's with MJ, the kids, Uncle Ben, or even all three though)

Superior#6 sounds an awful lot like it's wrapping things up.

The countdown to ASM#50 continues with yet another showdown between Peter and Chasm, with more info on what's going down with Norman.

The solicitation saying "what's going on with Norman Osborn???" like it's some big mystery is hilarious. The desperation to pretend the book hasn't become totally predictable is palpable.
