This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Even Jameson is Peter's best friend now.
Personally, when it comes to Peter needing an arch-enemy, I'm just counting the hours till Green Goblin comes back and becomes Peter's most toxic ex.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"The most recent recurring villain who's really worked for me as a proper, long-term rogues gallery member was Mister Negative. And I'm not sure I see him as an archnemesis.
Who else do we have who's relatively recent, suitably dangerous and might become an archnemesis over time?
(No. Not Paul.)
For that matter, what are the factors that make a great archnemesis for Peter?

A mix of personal enmity and physical threat. Some villains lean more to one or the other, but others are both.

Honestly, I don't think any of Peter's current/newer rogues is good archenemy material. He either needs a brand new one or an established villain needs to get a total revamp to suit the role.
As for what makes a good archenemy for Spider-Man... I would say the big things are simply that the arch has to be more dangerous than an average villain, have an intense personal connection to Peter, and significant successes against him. Those are the things Otto, Norman, and Venom all had in common.

I don’t recall his first name, but his last was apparently Caradine.
I know this because he had a daughter named Jessica Caradine who popped up during Ben’s original run.
Or at least, that’s what I remember reading on a wiki once.
One Strip! One Strip!
As they said, beyond the fact that his last name was Carradine (which we know from his daughter), no, we've never learned his name. The Raimi movies called him Dennis Carradine, but that's never made it's way back to 616. Most adaptations never reveal his name or much of anything about him, with the notable exception of Spectacular Spider-Man, which composited him with Black Cat's dad and resultantly called him Walter Hardy.
That reminds me of my theory as a kid that one-off villain "The Cat" was Black Cat's father.
The Protomen enhanced my life. The two tie-ins so far are good at least. I heard that Spider-Woman is going to be an ongoing and everyone's been clamouring for a Mayor Cage book.
Which means that what we get will never live up to the hype and ideas festering in our own heads but what can you do....
U.S Army E-sports Discord Server Ban Speedrun Any%I’m not reading Amazing anymore but Spider-Alan sure does have a lot of gang war stories
Forever liveblogging the AvengersFrom what little I've seen of Gang War, it's not outright bad and is interesting in concept, but ultimately nothing special and certainly nothing that hasn't been done better by prior writers.
I am one of those annoyed we haven't gotten a proper book for Luke as mayor. What's the point of having him do that if he's not gonna get some comics out of it? A comic in the vein of Brian K. Vaughn's Ex Machina set in an actual superhero universe is pretty cool as an idea.
There’s a lot of plot things that writers set up and then go “okay someone else pick this up and run with it” and then nobody does
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think some writers forget that if you expect someone else to run with the baton, you sometimes have to run with them for a bit to make the hand off.
One Strip! One Strip! In fairness to the Hobgoblin thing, I assume Stern fully intended to get to the reveal but he was removed from the book. Later writers varied between “interested in resolving the mystery but had vastly differing ideas than Stern for how it should resolve” and “Hobgoblin who? I’m really more about Blood Rose! Now that’s a good character concept!”
It’s different than how Jason Aaron would go “Draculas run Chernobyl now! Anyone want to play around with a vampire nation? Anyway, gotta go half setup six more kinda cool things to throw in the sandbox!”

Forever liveblogging the AvengersRemember how you once raised a point about how Kingsley would prefer NOT being Spider-Man's arch enemy since he's all about business over petty grudges, to the point he went out of his way to make a Goblin formula that wouldn't drive it's user insane?
I actually remembered how him framing Ned Leeds and Flash Thompson as identities for the Hobgoblin put him on Spider-Man's shit list. Ironic how his efforts to stay under the radar ended up making things personal with Spider-Man.

In Stern's case, he got tripped before he could finish his leg of the marathon because someone else wouldn't let him.

In regards to Spidey getting a new archenemy, I really think he could do with a new one. I've made my feeling that Green Goblin has long overstayed his welcome clear, Venom is a good guy now, and Doc Ock has likewise gotten to the point where he's kinda spent and mostly seems to still be around because he's Slott's favorite. Kindred could've been the new archenemy, but they were killed at the end of Spencer's run and once their supposed identity was revealed, it became clear they weren't designed to be a long-term villain let alone an arch. Peter needs a new deeply personal enemy.
