This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

I feel like how long Spider-Boy sticks around will depend on how long editorial can go without trying to go a dark and gritty route with the character. He's very clearly intended for younger readers. That's the appeal of the character. As long as editorial keeps him in the hands of writers who can write for younger audiences, Spider-Boy will likely remain reasonably successful.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. The 20th anniversary of Mark Millar's Civil War is only two years off.
And now that Speedball is Speedball again, what better way to mark the occasion than by retooling plucky, optimistic Bailey and putting him into the Penance outfit? Bailey becomes a legacy hero, the Penance IP is revived, and it'll get loads of comic news site headlines.

You jest, but with how the ol' webhead was handled since Quesada, my inner cynic is unwilling to discard the possibility.
That reminds me, is there any chance we can poach some of Insomiac's writers and make them editors? They seem to have a firmer grasp on the character than the current suits right now?
Spidey himself was specifically created as a solo teen hero because Stan hated the idea of teen sidekicks.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonMarvel has Rick Jones instead. Who doesn't wear a costume but does wear a parachute under his jacket, just in case.
This makes him smarter than Bucky.

Slott's not all bad. He has his weaknesses as a writer but he is far from without merit.
The problem is that he acts like he's better than everyone else and can do no wrong, expects everyone else to keep his changes, he treats MJ like dirt, insists that Otto did nothing wrong as the Superior Spider-Man, and whatever decent writing he has done was probably actually done by Christos Gage.
The guy has a thread on CBR explicitly made to complain about the people who hurt his feelings, but the people he complains about? He's talking about people he blocked on Twitter, ergo, he's a cyber-stalker.
Like, most of the early issues just feel like Dan Slott is stroking Spider-Ock's ego by showing that he's really "superior" at being Spider-Man compared to Peter, which feels like one big spit to what Peter has done for many years.
"Cynicism is not realistic and tough. It's unrealistic and kind of cowardly because it means you don't have to try."I mean, the run ends with Otto being utterly humiliated by Green Goblin, and Peter taking back the mantle because Otto has to admit Peter is better than him and erase himself.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"The Goblin may have won but Ock proved himself superior in every way. Norman has never done anything remotely similar.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Taking over Spider-Man has already been done by Kraven.
Green Goblin is already Doc Ock's superior in villainy, that's the entire point of Dan Slott's finale. It's basically Norman showing Otto exactly where he falls in the pecking order.
Doc Ock might have taken over Spider-Man, but the Green Goblin took over New York and destroyed Otto's life.
Besides, Green Goblin has something over Doc Ock as of the latest run, he's employing Spider-Man.
Otto could never be superior to Peter, because he's inferior to Norman.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Green Goblin is Spider-Man's arch enemy. You can like other villains above him, but between Peter and Norman, it'll ALWAYS be the most personal.
Plus there's just far more emotional depth between those characters than anything Otto can do.
Even Peter sees Otto as number 2 at best in that one convo at the start of Spencer's run.
Again, the entire point of the finale of Superior is that Otto couldn't last against Spider-Man's REAL arch-enemy. Otto can do his weird gimmick and push by Slott, but even Slott knows Green Goblin is Spider-Man's greatest enemy.
Green Goblin is the final boss for both the Superior Spider-Man run, AND Dan Slott's own run for Amazing.
