This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Soon enough, writing under Spider-Editorial is going to be like being a lawyer for Trump: Anyone competent at the job will either leave on their own in short order due to the stress of dealing with the boss's unreasonable demands or else be fired for refusing one of said demands, and that'll leave just the dregs of the industry whose only real skill is schmoozing up to the boss.
Is it still selling well? I know No Such Thing as Bad Publicity, but this is an ongoing issue.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Spider-Man’s consistent sales are generally chalked up to three things:
- Spider-Man is Marvel’s biggest and most popular superhero and always had sales higher than other comics because of it, even when it’s not doing well.
- Ass loads of variants for every issue so collectors will buy more than one copy.
- Publishing at a higher rate than other comics due to being bi-monthly or even tri-monthly instead of monthly.
These three factors combine to make fluff up Spider-Man’s sales numbers. Even then, its sales are pathetic compared to a lot of manga and indie comics.

There's really no reason for anyone who wants to do actual "writing" to work on ASM. They know the editors are the one's who are really making the stories...and they insist on the preservation of a dead end staus quo that no one wants. The fact they have to put out a ton of variants would seem to indicate that they know the book can't sell on it's own merits. The comics are already far behind the other Spider-Man media in terms of popularity...so if Ultimate outsells ASM as it likely will...that will be further proof of OMD's continuing unpopularity.

Ironically Chip is doing the exact same shit as Wells over on Batman.
While he probably doesn't agree with editorial idea that Spidey should be a beaten down sadsack, he probably doesn't share the same opinion for Batman.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Spider-Man seems to be selling (as issues) better than anything else Marvel does, and generally better than everything DC does except Batman.
Yes, all the variant covers add to that - but they're relatively low cost to add, and it's all still money in the bank for Marvel. Putting 12 variant covers on Speedball wouldn't get the same effect.

Batman has historically had a lot of the same problems that Spider-Man faces with shit like out-of-touch editorial enforcing shitty status quos everyone hates or trying to fuck over popular characters the editorial doesn’t like for petty, creepy, bigoted reasons. Which makes sense since they occupy similar positions in their respective companies as their most popular heroes.

Something to note that chances is that Wells isn't a sychophant, he could be more a writer who genuinely agrees with editorials wants.
It's pretty much either potential here. They either sycophantic yes men or like minded writers.
Cause in Chip's case on Batman is likely that his Batman isn't suffering much executive meddling, cause what he wants to write is exactly the kind of shit editorial wants.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."At this point, anyone who writes work-for-hire for Marvel or DC knows that they're working within the framework editorial gives them.
And that means that it you've got a flagship book, editorial is probably giving you less flexibility. At least one major crossover a year, and no status quo changes except the ones they want to make.
Either you're supportive of what they want to do, or you acknowledge they own the characters and make the best of it.
For a book like Spider-Man, Marvel will want to he sure of that before you start your run, because they really don't like swapping writers out midway.
carnage #1. carnage tries to take down omnipotence city but they are able to send him away, to ryker's where he rewrites the body, mind, and dna of the guy in the cell to be cletus. he then starts killing people but with a purpose this time by trying to get people to worship him while doing it so he can be an actual god. also flash is there
Going back a couple pages to: "Mary Jane told Peter she 'felt' her child die in the Final Chapter storyline"
New theory: Mayday actually did die, and that lady working for Norman stole a different baby and claimed it was Peter and MJ's kid because she was worried she wouldn't get paid if Norman knew the real baby miscarried.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Which brings us back to how nice could sinless Norman have been if he never confessed his hand in that or brought Mayday back
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
. . . Why do I get the feeling that gets even weirder in context?
the one lady from hordiculture the old lady group of x-men villains, who was the main bad guy of the man-thing specials a few years ago implanted deadpool with stuff, and eventually she cut him open and out popped a fully formed cletus, only for a giant dog symbiote wade calls princess comes out from his organs and eats the cletus

They are legit losing talent because of the Marvel Status Quo and Editorial refuses to budge on it.
That's a lot of sunk cost fallacy there.
