This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

I guess it's an attempt at making the Spider people more relatable?
Since there's a lot of overlap with comic book nerds and science nerds.
Unfortunately, for stupid people like me, all the science babble from writers who don't know much about science as they think they do, just make the spiders unrelatable.
I really related to that bit in the first Spider-verse movie where Miles is way out of his depth in school and is struggling with things that all the others are getting with ease.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Silk seems to be into journalism.
But the writing side, not photography.
And Jessica Drew is a detective when she bothers to have a job
Gwen is a drummer.
I don’t think any of these three have more than casual knowledge of science or whatever they pick up through osmosis
Forever liveblogging the AvengersVery big ooof. You're giving me anxiety over my college struggles.
Wait, whatever did happen to Peter re-enrolling in College AGAIN in the Spencer run? Did he pass the Lizard's class?
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Sorry
And I dunno
Spencer was so bad at juggling subplots that I have no memory of whether Peter passed the class or dropped out. It only ever came up when someone needed to kidnap the lizard for something or Peter’s classmate invented that oracle thing
Forever liveblogging the Avengers...Did Peter FAIL because of lack of attendance?
Would be the cherry on top of the shit sundae that is the Wells run.
Ehhh It's alright, it's only the 2nd year or so. Can't be worse than adulting for real ehhh?

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"He did get exploded into a coma for a while
I think that’s something college will give excused absences for but knowing Peter he never applied for it

Sure why not. It’s probably as good an explanation as any we’ll get. Hell, maybe Peter just plain forgot he was even taking that class. Then one day he abruptly remembers and runs to make class and we get a recreation of the “my class is over” scene from Raimi Spider-Man 2 but Curt is still Lizard.

Peter is a college graduate. He just doesn't have a doctorate.
I'm not sure he even has a Masters.
Becoming a Decomposite Character with Jessica Jones stole a large chunk of what made Jessica unique.

Didn’t even change the first name

Yeah, poor Jess. I’ve totally lost touch with her place in the current comics, Jessie Jones got her detective role and her connection to the Spider-Family has always been nonexistent by design so she couldn’t fall back on that. Bendis almost saved her by making her part of the Avengers, but ever since he left Marvel she’s kinda been in limbo. The last I remember of anyone doing anything notable with her was that dumb Dennis Hallum run where he had her get pregnant for some reason.

My best guess is that it was a continuity nod since a couple future Jesses have a son named Gerry
The only substantial role I can think of Jessica Drew having recently was as Carol’s best friend in the Captain Marvel book
That netted her fairly consistent appearances

The funny thing I think she's doing pretty well.
Jessica still gets and is abld to support her own ongoings, which is more than I can say for Jessica Jones who hasn't had a new book since the multiverse miniseries with Gail Simone.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Bendis being gone and Jess Jones being married with child seems to have put her in a semi limbo

After a quick refresher look at the wiki, yeah, that was it. Jess’ 616 son is, in fact, the 616 Gerry. Now that we’re mentioning it, I actually am okay with Jess being a mom. I love MC2 (it’s still the “canon” Marvel future in my headcanon) so having Gerry be in the mainstream is cool, and it’s not a bad development. I just dislike how Hallum did it, because his writing left a lot to be desired and he clearly didn’t care to actually explore the character development that would be required for Jess being willing to even have a kid and was generally half-baked in his execution. I’m not a fan of Hallum’s work and never have been.
It is kinda funny how Jessica Jones is stuck in a kinda semi-limbo now that Bendis is gone. She used to be such a staple of Marvel during his time there, now she’s largely disappeared into the mists of being Luke’s wife and Danielle’s mom.
Jess D’s pregnancy was played up as a mystery box, I think?
Like ooooooo who’s the dad????
And then it turned out to be a random donor?
(We all know it was Carol somehow though. Maybe after she was exposed to Red Carolnite)
Anyway. Yeah like other mystery boxes, playing it up as an enigma robs a lot of characterization out of it for an ultimately lackluster payoff
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat’s what happens when you’re tightly tied with a specific writer, and then that writer not only leaves, but fans turn on him.
Fortunately Miles hasn’t had that issue. Not sure about Riri though.
One Strip! One Strip!

Well Miles is a scientist. That's one of his things. Smart enough to be one, mostly lucking out with the lottery.
Also, you don't really want to remove scientist from the black guy.
I actually think it's a good thing they moved Peter from Photographer to Scientist in the past couple of decades too.
