This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

It's why I've come to disregard everything Marvel comics has done with the character post OMD.
Easy because his original creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko have long since passed on.
My favorite artist for Spidey, Todd Mc Farlane, is long gone.
All my favorite stuff from Spidey since my childhood (movies, tv shows and video games) came from Sony.
Marvel owns the license but that's it and honestly I'd be happier if the character was in Sony's hands. As they treat him with respect their.
Spider-man editorial is just a toxic creative team that enjoys trolling the fans.

What’s your cut off point? Is it right before OMD or did you pick a point that feels like a good point to leave the character?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI don’t know about them, but my cutoff point for Spidey is right before “The Other” in the JMS, which is the exact point where the march into this current hell began. So basically, the first three “Ultimate Collections” of the JMS run, cutting out the fourth book. Everything past that is Broad Strokes canon to my Marvel Universe at best; events roughly analogous to some of the Post-Other/Sins Past/OMD comics (smidge of BND, Slott’s run up til Superior plus a little bit of the Parker Industries era, most of the Spencer run) happened, but in radically different ways, most prominently that Peter and MJ are still married.

If I'm being 100% honest Sins Past and reading the story behind it.
I read it and said to myself
"Quesada would rather have Gwen sleep with her future killer than let Peter be a father.:
At that point I knew Spider-man comics were beyond salvaging.
It's why the only thing I was surprised with Paul was that the kids with MJ were adopted. Because if they could get away with it 100% MJ would have had Paul's kids to hurt Peter more.

I'm going to be perfectly blunt, a lot of these posts read off as some of you not actually having even read anything post-OMD and just going by what people on the internet are telling you has been happening.
Cause like, yeah, there's been low points sure, but Peter's only looked pathetic in the Wells run.
It was NEVER that bad before.
NYCC just had their Spider-Man panel:
- Unsurprisingly, it's on Gang War (2023).
- Miles' side of Gang War runs separated from the main Gang War plot and continues his fight with Hobgoblin. (What are the odds that the Miles issues will be better than the Peter issues?)
- Luke Cage's tie-ins will have him plus Jessica Jones, Danny Rand, and Cloak & Dagger vs. the Spider-Slayers. Plus, Luke gets a new costume!
- Spider-Woman has Jessica Drew against Diamondback, who's peddling a drug with connections to HYDRA.
- At long last, MJ gets her Jackpot solo announced. By Celeste Bronfman and Joey Vasquez. (Celeste wrote the MJ story in ASM #31 that established how she became Jackpot.)
- In the panelists' words "You'll be surprised how hard we go."
- Dan Slott's new pet Spider-Boy has his own Gang War tie-in, exclusive to Marvel Unlimited, where he tries to defend FEAST! By Preeti Chhibber and E.J. Su.
- They're not done with Ben Reilly. Wells claims we'll "see him sooner than [we] think."
- Ben's going to be the new Kingpin of Crime, won't he? (Spoiler-blocked my speculation in case I end up calling it.)
- Editor Nick Lowe says he and Wells
plotteduh, I mean planned Kamala's death when they realized she didn't have a solo book. And he claims they didn't foreshadow it to be a real gut punch. - Surprisingly, the audience voiced their displeasure out loud via the fan questions by asking if Peter and MJ will be together for good twice. The panelists don't respond the first time. Editor Nick Lowe answers around the matter and EIC C.B. Cebulski gets defensive, calling it a soap opera.
- Someone in the audience even asked the panelists "why are you taunting fans?"
- Venom and Moon Knight won't appear. They pushed hard to have the latter, but he's busy being dead. Big Wheel is also a no-show.
- They also dodged questions about Jackpot, claiming they have "really cool things coming up" for the character they can't talk about.
- Man-Spider will appear in Hallow's Eve, a Halloween special coming later.

In fairness it's a trend I've seen before. Following the Clone Saga, but before John Byrne came on we got regular attempts at a good Spider-Man story, then JMS and sometimes good work from Paul Jenkins then OMD and Nick Spencer before Wells. On the one hand yeah I would need to pick up a book often to better critique it, but then be ridiculed for spending money on something I can't consistently enjoy.
At least my way is saving money for better reads.
So yeah spending money for this go around only helps to justify the higher ups attitude. Those who get guilty pleasure enjoyment or finds any good, I can respect. But anyone still spending money without the enjoyment, again, Spider-Girl Epic Collection or the upcoming Secret Wars tale is the best related alternative.
An many outside the big two.
More info about Jackpot:
According to the Gang War solicitations,
it's a one-shot.
Why is being a one-shot so significant? Because the rumor mill said it would be a miniseries. So a one-shot means they lost confidence in the new year's direction.

So, just as a head’s up, pretty much THE ENTIRE second Insomniac game has been leaked online and shit is literally off the chain peak Spider-Man. The spoilers are worth discussing for their differences from the comics and just general awesomeness. This is not all the major reveals and changes, just the ones I’ve heard, as I sadly haven’t seen all the leaks myself. For those not interested, MASSIVE spoilers below obviously:
- Harry is Venom in this version. We do indeed get playable Venom and he plays near identically to how he does in the old Ultimate Spider-Man game, complete with replicating a lot of moves. He also has both the usual Venom powers and some of the King In Black powers introduced in the Donny Cates run like making dragon wings out of symbiote matter. Also Harry starts out as AGENT Venom before becoming Venom proper as he goes off the deep end.
- Cletus Kasady is introduced as a leader of a cult of arsonists, which is a new take. The ending sets him up to become Carnage in the next game. Cletus is played by Cameron Monaghan.
- Silk/Cindy Moon has been reimagined as Miles’ stepsister who’s dad marries his mom on the rebound following Jefferson’s death in the first game. I don’t know if she has spider powers in this version or not.
- The plot starts out as kind of a fused adaptation of the Black Suit/Venom Saga and Kraven’s Last Hunt, only to go wildly off the rails when Peter gets rid of the suit and it bonds with Harry, who proceeds to bite Kraven’s head off onscreen, at which point it turns into an adaptation of Web of Shadows of all things, with Venom trying to take over New York and unleash a Symbiote invasion of Earth. It also an adaptation of Best of Enemies, what with Harry being the Big Bad and it ends with him dying in Peter’s arms in a recreation of his death from the comics. Additional elements are from Nick Spencer’s Hunted arc (Kraven goes after multiple superhumans in his quest for his ultimate fight, and personally murders Vulture and Scorpion), Brand New Day (Mister Negative creating the Anti-Venom suit and Sandman having a kid), and Spider-Man No More (Peter decides to quit being Spider-Man at the end).
- Speaking of Kraven, he’s dying of cancer during the events of the game which motivates his desire to die in an last hunt, like in Life Story. This seems to partly be a Red Herring for people familiar with that story to trick you into thinking he’ll become Venom like in that version instead of Harry, when it’s the other way around. Venom killing him kinda clinches the Mythology Gag.
- Flash is not Anti-Venom in this continuity because Peter gets the Anti-Venom suit to fight Venom.
- MJ gets possessed by a symbiote for a boss fight, in what feels to me like a twisted reference to her whole Trauma Button about Venom in the comics. In fact, she’s this continuity’s Scream.
- Yuri does indeed become Wraith, just like in the comics.
- The plan for the next game seems to be Norman becoming Green Goblin and busting Doctor Octopus out of jail to help him while Cletus rampages as Carnage, maybe as an adaptation of Ends of the Earth, Dying Wish, and Go Down Swinging or something else entirely. In any case, Norman is DEFINITELY on the way to becoming Gobby.
- Sandman shows up as the Batman Cold Open specifically in his gigantic sandstorm/beach form from Ends of the Earth and Shattered Dimensions. It turns out that he’s working for Kraven to test and draw out Spidey because Kraven is holding his daughter, Keemia from Brand New Day, hostage.
- At the start, Peter is trying to get a job as a teaching assistant like in the JMS run.
- Apparently Curt Conners doesn’t become the Lizard willingly here. Kraven forces him to take the serum that transforms him for the sake of his hunt. The Lizard’s portrayal seems influenced a little by Shed; he starts out as the classic design with the lab coat and everything but slowly mutates and devolves into a much bigger and monstrous form.
- Unlike the comic where he never really reforms, Mister Negative gets a measure of redemption and an arc of making amends with Miles over causing Jefferson’s death while helping stop Venom.
- Apparently Spider-Man and Tombstone make peace with each other and work together, which is kinda a hilarious reversal from the Wells/Lowe stuff.
- Mysterio, Black Cat, and Prowler also have their own subplots for Miles to do. Mysterio’s side quest involves him tricking Miles into helping him kidnap people for his latest scheme. Black Cat’s has her stealing a teleporting staff from Doctor Strange. Prowler gives Miles side jobs and upgrades. None of those is particularly connected to any comic storylines.
This is all I’ve heard for now. Want to see the leaks myself.

Oh dang. I haven't gotten around to watching playthroughs of the first game and the Miles Morales side-game.
If we can use an analogy (and if it's a stupid question, I apologize in advance), would you say Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 kicks Wells' ASM run in the butt in terms of plot, characters, and well, everything?
She probably has to be aged down

One Strip! One Strip!

Honestly...being able to relate to Post-OMD Peter would send me spiraling into depression. He has to be the most pathetic wretch of a "big time" comic character in existence.
