This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Maybe Wells is deliberately angling that for a big reveal from Sinless-Norman just before he inevitably turns back into a cackling psychopath: that despite what Mac Gargan claimed way back when, 616-Mayday is still alive, and that she has been ever since her supposed "stillbirth" and kidnapping by Osborn-minion Allison Mongrain during the tail end of the Clone Saga.
...
Oh, who am I kidding? There's no way Spider-Editorial will ever let that happen for fear of aging their mass-marketable eternal-twentysomething, and even if they did, Wells is absolutely not the writer to handle it.

I feel like we kind of need to accept that comic CE Os follow very different rules from real life ones. It's the only way we can keep rooting for the likes of Bruce Wayne, Tony Stark and Ted Kord.
Agreed. Most Comicbook CE Os (specifically the ones that are superheroes) should not be judged with the same brush as 99% of real life CE Os. It's a disservice to them as characters to do other wise. Hell, we've talked about how the entire point behind Tony is that Stan wanted to create a character people would hate and make them cheer for him.
Norman ain't on that list however. He needs to be burned with all the things that are flammable.
One Strip! One Strip! So we need to hire.......
....
Who are Marvel's fire-based villains, anyway? I can think of more than one DC fire villain but not any Marvel.

Ehhhhh.
I want to believe that we'll be on the road to healing, but I'm about convinced that Wells' train of thought is "how can I make Peter suffer more than he already has?" Because the rumors sound sensible, but Wells has proven that he doesn't know sensible. Plus, I got a bud on Twitter who's been keeping tabs on the Wells' ASM train and he doesn't really buy it either.
I do wonder where the contemptuousness toward MJ, specifically, comes from, since none of Spidey's other love interests are treated as badly as her. I mean, if it was motivated by preferring the days when MJ was the Romantic False Lead and Gwen was The One, why not revive Gwen then? If you wanted to force the issue there's evidence you can use to say she's STILL The One, even, like House of M.
I doubt that.
I think it's just that they don't want Spidey to be married, and MJ is in the way of that.
The problem is, they let him marry her, and then found that they couldn't wind the clock back like they wanted.
Unlike Gwen, MJ is just completely untouchable. This should have been clear when she completely eclipsed the girl she was supposed to be playing second fiddle to.
And MJ lacks any of the other factors that let Conway make The Night Gwen Stacy Died either, despite apparently being disliked by the writers as well.
One Strip! One Strip!I know we tend to forget a lot about Brand New Day, but Zeb Wells was a writer in that Era. He wrote the stuff his run is a sequel to, and he wrote that issue where Lizard ate his son.
I don't think a single issue this run has can be chalked up to him not knowing the character. Slott knew the character and I hated half of the decisions he made.

Yep. MJ represents the exact opposite of what they want Peter to be...the eternally young and single loser. But as the saying goes "you can't unring a bell". No matter how hard they try...Peter has long since outgrown the tiny box they want him in. And they blame MJ for it.

Having read Deadly Neighborhood Spiderman I wonder if this entire run will end with Peter suddenly waking up in a typical psychologist's office, and then he turns around and sees the Demon Bear sitting there with its head sticking out of a tux.
"I'VE BEEN LOCKED IN A DEMON BEAR NIGHTMARE."
"(ROAR INTENSIFIES)"
"he wrote that issue where Lizard ate his son." Amazing Spider-Man should not have children being eaten. ASM should be a more family-friendly book than that.
Wells did a couple Carnage minis, didn't he? With Clayton Crain on art? As I recall, those were pretty good. They seem to be up Wells' wheelhouse. I get the feeling he does fucked-up really well, it's just that ASM isn't the right place for his kind of fucked-up. Daredevil could get away with it. He could probably do a solid Dr. Strange. So there are big-name comics where Wells would likely do really good work.
I just feel like ASM is a comic that should strive to be largely family-friendly. He's the guy on the lunch boxes, you know? Kids love Spider-Man. If parents want to get their kids into comics, Spidey's one of the best characters to do that with. And Marvel could definitely use some kid-friendly stuff. Taking a look at the December solicits, the kid-friendly stuff is: Spider-Boy, Secret Wars (I assume), Fantastic Four, maybe that Silver Surfer mini that seems to be a throwback. Maybe one or two others. There are some options, sure.
But I still feel like Marvel should try to get ASM back to being more kid-friendly than it seems to have been lately. And having a dude who previously wrote a Spider-Man issue where a dude eats his own kid is, uh, maybe not the way to do that.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. They legit put a scene where Norman Osborn fucked Gwen Stacy and we saw his O-face.
I actually read that story as a kid, and I legit did not understand what was going on or what sex was, so I thought the the twins were born because Norman loved Gwen that much.
Yeah Spider-Man comics not being family friendly can really mess up the brand.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"OK, I've seen the scans now of this week's issue.
More Paul torture as Peter drops him from the bridge, though MJ saves him. Norman relieves Peter of his sins with Kraven's spear and it's implied he got them back at the end, Peter and MJ finally emotionally reconnect with an embrace
