This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

I agree, but it's kind of funny that [[ALLMIGHTVOICE]]"young Midoriya"[[/ALLMIGHTVOICE]] lacks a specific trait that young Peter Parker had.
That being his unsocial personality. Kid was a mean, easily angered cuss in high school and didn't mellow out for a long time afterwards. Deku has a few moments were he gets violently mad, but otherwise he's nice and kind person like modern, well-written adult Peter is.
Gotta have Deku stand out from Spider-Man somehow since he now has shadow web shooters.
Also Deku does not make jokes when he’s fighting people.
But he’s still funnier than Wells Spider-Man.
Though I do feel people overplay how mean Lee Ditko era Peter was.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Deep in the bowels of this reddit comment
chain, someone made some interesting comparisons to this run of Spider-Man and Avengers #200.
A fan favorite female character was trapped in another dimension until she """developed""" a relationship with this creepy bearded weirdo. Also Ms. Marvel gets screwed over and joins the X-Men as a result.
At least in the intervening decades Marvel has become marginally less better at regurgitating this plotline, but wow it's never a good sign when someone can compare your comic to one of the most infamous and least popular examples of bad comic writing.
This aspect of Peter's has largely been forgotten due to adaptations playing up his shyness and giving him a circle of friends, however small it might be. In fact, a lot of Spider Man Send Ups tend to be less antisocial than Peter originally was. I recall reading somewhere that the writers of Static Shock limited Virgil's friends to just Richie, Frieda and Daisy because they were too lazy to show Virgil with a larger circle of friends.
Oh, yeah, people can totally blow it out of proportion, like how people act like Batman was a brooding loner maniac shooting people nonstop in the Golden Age when he’d gotten rid of the gun and picked up Robin before his first year was even over. But most times they don’t, Peter really was kind of a major flawed asshole for most of his history, it was one of his defining traits. Young Peter was really bitter, constantly seethed at all his peers, picked fights at the drop of a hat, was a terrible boyfriend, and mostly cared about money. Even as he matured and became a lot nicer he retained some of that edge well into the 80s, 90s, and even 2000s. Peter B. in Spider-Verse is pretty much how Spidey was mostly written up until OMD; not a HUGE asshole and he’ll always do the right thing in the end despite himself, but definitely a snarky grouch who isn’t afraid to tell people when he thinks they’re being idiots.

That’s definitely the only way to clean Spider-Man up as a book. There’s just no other way. It’s like a wasp hive on your garden shed door. The only way you’re getting your tools and doing anything is if you get rid of the nest.
That edge and also relatable problems are what made Spider Man and other marvel heroes so popular
The edges were sanded off a little over time and DC started copying the troubled relatable hero thing so there’s not as much of a difference these days. But back in the 60s a hero like Spider Man was novel
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHonestly it's reasons like that I legit feel Peter B. Parker and the other Spider-Man made by Sony are the real character.
Spidey stopped being a character after Quesada got his way. He's a bad sitcom character that's long since been flanderized to the point of parody.
I joke about Spider-Man editorial but it's very obvious they know what they're doing and it's primarily to spite fans who want the old Spider-Man back.
Is this it? Is this the day I use my Spider powers for my own personal gain?
I've been having a blast with My Hero Acadamia, and I went there in the first place because of how bad this run got.
Sounds like a good idea.
Also again for good comic recommendations, Sonic the Hedgehog, Darkwing Duck and Gargoyles (Plus the Dark Ages mini).

If its any consolation, I’m fairly certain the only reason Spider-Man is “strong in sales” right now is because of a mixture of “Spidey always sells at least somewhat” and Marvel artificially inflating things with constant shitloads of variants and taking the book, what, TRI-monthly now? And its still selling for shit numbers in comparison to stuff like manga and indie comics.

What?
