This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Yeah, but from what I hear, he didn't fair so well in the long run.
For the longest time, they were the two big Marvel Franchises.
They were the successful Film brands after Blade, and before the MCU launched the Avengers.
One Strip! One Strip!![]()
He had a few surprisingly good showings back in the day, back before the Hulk started juggling helicarriers at least. Even stalemated Joe Fixit once or twice.

The What If Dark comic on Carnage was almost impressive in how it goes back and forth on continuity.
Giving Cortland a symbiote made sense, that's what happened in the main continuity. But for some reason he doesn't get Plague but some random "Dark Carnage". It also remembered the Spiral Cult from his backstory, but for some reason they worship Dormammu instead of Knull?

As I've said, He's got the agility and Wall-Crawling down, so in that regard, he'd be a good Spiderman.
He does lack the brute strength, but his teleportation provides him with options that Peter lacks.
What will be interesting is seeing how Kurt handles being a solo hero. He's been a team player for the entirety of his superhero career (with the X-Men, with OG X-calibur, etc). While Pete does have people he can rely on, he's usually in there on his own, and while his strength, speed, genius, and Spider-Sense have let him compensate, Kurt doesn't have any of that. He's got years of experience of his own, and again, his teleportation, but he'll have to tackle things from a completely different angle from how Peter would do it.

One Strip! One Strip!A random thing I’ve been thinking about:
Do we know if the animal theming of so many of the Silver Age villains was intentional, or if it was a coincidence that ended up becoming more of a theme over the decades?
It gets a lot of tongue in cheek jokes today, but I never was sure if Lee and Ditko meant to do that or if it just sort of ended up that way, since they were throwing so many villain concepts at the wall in those days.

TBF, there were a couple of villains who didn't have animal theme naming going on.
Such as Mysterio, Sandman, and Green Goblin.
Plus those one shot villains like Professor Stromm and the living brain.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"I remember that there was a post on tumblr from r/justshowerthoughts that said something along the lines "Spider-Man's villains are all themed after animals that are natural predators to spiders" to which the responses roasted it with "Oh yes, rinhos, octopuses and goblins, the spiders' natural predators.
I'm reminded of RAINBOW SIX: PATRIOTS that unfortunately got a reaction from the fandom of, "Wow, a bunch of terrorists want to murder wall street executives? Sign me up!"
Which is to say, yes, Peter, go and kill Norman Osborn.
It would in fact be awesome.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Ah, so it's an alternate universe. Or an imaginary story.
Edit: Oh, and we get another Spider-Man 2099 series
by Orlando in Jan.

I really hope that Evil!Peter does an "I buried Paul"
joke.
Edited by Hodor2 on Sep 22nd 2023 at 7:23:17 AM
Just to be clear, I was saying that I wanted Peter to make an Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor type joke about killing/harming Paul. I wasn't envisioning it as a Take That, Scrappy! moment.
Yeah but I just know Wells and Lowe will try and make us the reader feel ashamed of ourselves for cheering on Peter as he brutally murders Paul "I helped my daddy commit a genocide" Rabin.
When at this point I'm calling it as Peter doing a service to the community and Fandom.
But then again I'm a punisher fan........

Combing X and Spider popularity together, he will become the most popular figure in Marvel. Get him to join an Avengers and the scouter will explode, that's how popular he'll be.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
