This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

More like:
"As the owner, I'm paying you to do a piece of work. It's art and we expect you to be creative, but I'm not going to hire you for it if you're not willing to work with us to deliver something that's within the limits of the brief"
That's work for hire, whether it's Marvel, DC, Star Trek, a soap opera or an ad campaign.

Slott posted this on a thread on CBR. I think there's something about hotlinking to other communities, so I'll just copy/paste what he said
"The decision to undo the marriage (in the story that eventually became ONE MORE DAY) took place *years* before I was ever brought on to the Brand New Day writing team. Writing an unmarried Pete & MJ was the assignment. It remained the assignment when the book switched from BND to Big Time. It remained the assignment for all of my tenure. It remained the assignment for all of Nick Spencer's tenure. And it has remained the assignment today, during Zeb's tenure. If, in the future, a new writer comes on to ASM, it will remain their assignment as well. This is what Marvel wants. And a writer who isn't in line with that would not be brought on to the book."

Yep. It's Marvel's property and they're paying. That doesn't mean they're only hiring creators who hate the marriage, it means that they're only hiring creators who can work with editorial on the assignment.
Which is reasonable. Why would you ever hire a writer who refuses to do the job they're being paid for?
I don't think they ever will so that editors and writers can keep teasing OMD being undone. like Nick Spencer's run, for sales.
This run of Spider-Man is selling hotcakes. Why would they ever change that formula? They have no reason unfortunately, and ALL the reasons to keep OMD canon.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Unrelated but I read Dark Ages (Marvel Comics). And seeing a Happily Married Peter with may as his daughter was nice.
Feel like Tom Taylor added that since as an elseworld he has more free reign .
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Yeah, especially cause many either don't care or don't get that how they spend their money could potentially change mandates like this.
But also as a suggestion, if any of you have favorite titles that are a better alternative to the main Spider-Man continuum, do whatever you can to share/mention it to others.
Like making threads for such titles, mentioning them in the chatterbox thread and on other forums or discussion based sites.
Uh tbf I don't think the sales are becusse people like the run per say. So much as it being a mess attracts a different kind of audience
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
I mean more than some people have some nostalgic attachment to the character or title and just can't bear to let go.
A reader even told me he'd rather just keep up hope that the title will improve rather than trying some different titles even if they have more quality.
That and/or falling into the trap of purchasing them just so they can be informed while ranting.

Frankly this run selling has more to do with the fact the Spider-Man IP is more popular than ever thanks to Sony (Insomniac games, Spiderverse, and Venom) and the MCU.
Plus the negative reception to it on sites like Tik Tok, Twitter and You Tube. Driving interests to see how bad it is.
Also I'd be more inclined to agree with Marvel's "executive mandates" regarding Peter's character if the top brass at marvel hadn't already proven themselves inept that they bankrupted themselves and had to sell the rights of the Spider-Man IP to Sony in the first place.
Cause no matter how much this run sells its always gonna be overshadowed by Sony's products. As Tom Holland isn't returning anytime soon with his (like many other OG MCU actors') burnout/distintest with the role combined with his hiatus from acting.
Retiring?
No like Chris Hemsworth, before the early dementia health scare forced him into indefinite hiatus, basically said "I'm not coming back to role unless their is a good story to tell."
Plus Holland just kicked his alcohol addiction and wants to take a break from acting.
But like Thor, Spidey's story is done in the MCU with an open ending.
Some interesting developments with editorial in Spider-Man, as revealed in the final pages of Spider-Man#11, apparently the books have new co-editors, one of them is Ellie Pyle (a veteran editor who left a while back to work in the games, tv, and podcast departments, but has now returned) she will be working on many of the books going forward, and has promised among other things a Carnage vs Flash Thompson event.
Another interesting wrinkle to Bailey in Spider-Man#11
We learn it was encounters with Arcade in Murderworld and stopping the Big Wheel from destroying F.E.A.S.T that convinced Peter Bailey was ready for the big leagues. Also, Aunt May believed Bailey was Peter's SON and Spidey didn't feel like correcting her
