This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Yeah I've read the bulk of Garth Ennis' and Mark Millar's work until a slur is pretty much a bandaid on a scrapped knee compared to those gaping flesh wounds.
Plus already mentioned the Wolverine and Peter body swap story.
Hell Steve Ditko's later objectivist work is more controversial with how Mr. A would straight up ice people in brutal ways.
Pretty much.
Like jeez, some of the stuff said in Ultimate Spider-Man really is awful and pointing out how this hasn't aged well because back then they were seen as milder curses is still valid.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Thinking of Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Invasion #2 is out today and...
No Spider-content. Despite Miles being heavily featured in solicitations and briefly appearing in the first issue, he's not in this one. And the new Earth-6160 setting has been tampered with by the Maker to ensure the spider never bit Peter, as seen at the end of #1, when the Maker intercepted it. Technically, I guess Cindy might still be out there as Silk, if she was bitten first - but there's no indication of that and I doubt Hickman's going in that direction.
Although it increasingly looks like this is a temporary state before the real new Ultimate Universe gets introduced, complete with the usual suspects.

It's explicitly not 1610, though, which is key to the series.
Silk #3 was fun - Cindy, Wong and Albert all get some good moments, and the bad guys' plot is revealed. Ending with Saya Ishii allowing a demon to possess her, as the original plan to let it drain power from Cindy and manifest its own body failed. I'm hoping that's temporary - I like Saya as a villain and I'll be disappointed if she gets killed off or left in a monster form at the end of this.

Well whatever they wanna designate this new Ultimate Universe frankly I just find it as Marvel making its own multiverse way more complicated then it has to be...again.
Just say the old Ultimate Universe was brought back and has the same number designation boom done. No more of this self indulgence that gives new readers unnecessary homework.
Kamala mentioned in ASM today
Mostly Norman mourning her, talks a bit about she used to get him coffee and joked about it, he remembers the joke and always used it whenever he ordered coffee from that moment onwards. Said he liked her and that she liked him. Good thing Sins Past isn't canon but that still reads creepy
And her status in Hellfire Gala
She doesn't remember dying, so I presume she's forgotten Peter's identity too. She worries about her parents but Emma says she'll alter their memories of the past few days and they'll think she never died

Problem is, by the end the old Ultimate universe was pretty tangled. Peter was dead, some of the Ultimates were dead, iirc New York was flooded. Xorn and the Maker devastated large chunks of the world...
If you pick up after that or rewind it a bit (I think one reset/reboot did try to?) you still pick up a lot of complexity.
(And, as mentioned, there was stuff in there that was problematic at the time and has aged increasingly badly)
I can see why a blank slate and a new world appeals.

pete came back from the dead
Honestly I think you could do a pretty compelling USM comic set post secret wars with Peter back as Spider-man if you just... ignore the rest of the ultimate marvel universe
But the problem is that most of USM's villains and supporting cast actually kind of suck IMO
Bendis turned too many of them into jokes or just gave them absolutely nothing. I can't think of many characters that I'd be excited to see more of, beyond Peter's closest friends and Peter himself.
Seriously if we're gonna talk "problematic" then damn near all of Jim Shooters work on Marvel should be scrubbed clean and 616 needs a fresh reboot.
But we're not gonna do that because it's absurd. Just accept that it happened, it's a piece of early 2000s culture and move on with the Ultimate Universe.
That universe was intended as a blank slate to get rid of the crazy continuity problems yet we're going through an extra long convoluted explanation with Ultimate Reed to explain why it's coming back.
About Gwen, I have no problem with her being a lost love of Peter. It’s good that Peter did have someone he deeply loved but was able to move on and find someone else after her untimely death.
Of course that would all be swell and dandy if Marvel would just let her be. If Marvel really wants to bring her back then fuck it fine, it can’t be any worse than the plenty of terrible decisions they keep making. What’s one more bad move born out of their inability to let things be?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Considering it's the 50th anniversary of her death around right now, it really does make me wonder when they are gonna stop desecrating this poor woman's grave.
Sure, Peter and MJ will occasionally remember her and mourn her, she was a dear friend to both and Peter's girlfriend, but most attempts to squeeze more story from her don't come off well for anyone. Not Peter, not Gwen, not Marvel.

I was talking about the slurs used in Ultimate Spider-Man.
A lot of them are used.
Also remember that Wolverine tried to get sex from MJ while in Peter’s body.
And how it was played for humor.
