This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

I said this before but the recent symbiote additions were at least more tolerable because they were kept within the family. Recent stuff with Liz Allen and Normie Osborn have some connection to the setting to justify getting a symbiote.
Black Widow though is just completely random and comes across as someone really wanting to write Nat at the expense of literally anything else. Its like if Deadpool was seriously brought into the mainline comic instead of an ignorable mini-series.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I’m personally burned out on venom currently but I don’t see the big deal about Natasha becoming venom or hosting a symbiote for a while. The big strength of symbiotes as a concept is that they can try on different people every now and again
Since a new artist is coming on the book, presumably they just wanted to work Black Widow in and that character wasn’t doing anything more interesting lately except being punked by Arcade
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think the fact its happening randomly in the middle of the run is the issue.
I've already seen people assuming this means Nat is going to displace the actual stars of the book due to how bizarrely sudden her inclusion is.
Not helped by the bleeding cool article outright stating she's replacing Eddie and Dylan.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That to, alot of comic book runs/reveal have been purely clickbait to generate intrigue and/or hate views from the comics gate crowd.
Which is true to the text back in the Superdickery days but instead of character X killed y on the front cover or character X is acting extremely out of character on the front cover.
It's usually a Twitter post about the characters sexuality (Jon Kent, Web Weaver, Tim Drake etc) or a black and/or female character taking on a white male hero's role as a legacy character.
Or just a cheap crappy death for "brand synergy" (Kamala)
So the big event running from December to March is another gang war after Tombstone gets taken out.
Story involves Peter recruiting a band of heroes (including Miles, Jessica Drew, Electra, She-Hulk, Shang-Chi, with MJ potentially getting involved) to capture as many super criminals as they can within 48 hours.
Electra, Shang-Chi, Jessica and Luke Cage are all getting mini-series.
Jessica's said to have been changed by how she was rewoven into the web of life and destiny.
"The weirdest thing was probably when a secret cabal of villains kidnapped her and a random dude, grew them a baby and messed with their minds and stuck them in a simulated suburbs." In fairness, that was a really good story, though. Great work done. I especially loved that one of the villains was outright pissed at another one fucking the whole thing up by trying to kill her, because she figured Black Widow would then kill them all. I love people being genuinely scared of Black Widow.
As for Nat becoming Venom, does seem like a weird choice, and also weirdly superfluous? Like, she's already one of the most dangerous people on the planet. Now she's got built-in camouflage, super-strength, invulnerability, webs, and everything else the symbiote can do? Damn.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.![]()
It was the Black Widow series by Kelly Thompson and I wanna say Elena Casagrande. I think she was the artist from the start of the run, I know she was on for at least part of it.

X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. The only time I remember Spidey and Black Widow having any kind of extended interaction is when she offered a comforting ear to Spider-Man when she thought he was going through some rough days.
Those rough days being possessed by Doctor Octopus. But ghost-Peter did appreciate the gesture.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Nat has about as much relationship to Spidey as he does any other hero, they probably worked together at least once before.
Again this is most likely just someone, probably Gronbekk, really wanting to write Nat and using this as an excuse.
It be like if Drax the Destroyer shows up, gets bit, and becomes Spider-Drax for a run.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
. . . Spider-Drax honestly sounds pretty fun.
And yeah, Spider-Man and Black Widow have had a few run-ins over the years. As I recall, their first meeting had her fight him, fairly early in her superhero career, just to test herself. Her logic basically ended at "hey we're both spider-people this could be interesting."
They've had other encounters over the years, but honestly none that actually stand out in my mind. I know they've had team-ups, I just cannot remember any of them. I think there was one where the SHIELD Helicarrier was attacked and the two had to reclaim it? I'm pretty sure that happened?
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Black Widow has more "relations" with Daredevil than Spidey.
But in all seriousness why wasn't Black Widow introduced with Spider powers?
I get they needed the Spider-Woman branding come the 70s but seriously it a slam dunk. The Russians made an assassin with Spider powers and gave her the code name. Black Widow.

Announced at SDCC 2023!
The next dark event (yaaaay...) is pouring itself onto the laps of Spider-Man (both Peter and Miles, but mostly Peter) and other street-level heroes:
GANG WAR
(yeah, not the most creative title...)
The whole event sprawls from Amazing Spider-Man, pinballs between that book, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, and tons of mini-series featuring Luke Cage, Spider-Woman, the new Daredevil (aka Elektra), Shang-Chi, and Mayor Luke Cage, and lasts from November 2023 to March 2024.
("Isn't this basically Devil's Reign: Spider-Man Edition?")
...Yeah, it kinda sounds like it.

Eh. I'd rather see some Toxin.
