This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Oh yeah didn’t Quesada’s tenure have all the big cigar chompers stop chomping?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIIRC, the in-universe reason for Logan quitting was because he tried to smoke during a period where he lost his healing factor, only to end up violently sick because he was smoking a huge stogie for what was effectively (thanks to his healing factor having previously protected him from both addiction and the other effects of tobacco ever since his actual first time smoking) his first time ever, and promptly realizing that he never wanted to have to go through that again.
Of course, by the time Joey Q was no longer EIC, Disney had owned the company for a couple of years, and so wasn't too keen on letting their marketable superheroes start smoking where little kids could see them. They'd instituted the same rule with new animated features, so if Marvel didn't have their characters kick the habit before, Disney probably would have told Marvel to do it now, even though they otherwise just let Marvel do its own thing.

"Cynic, n. — A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be." - The Devil's DictionaryA new Spine-Tingling Spider-Man mini-series
from Saladin Ahmed coming in October
Spider-Cide appears
So that Superior Spider-Man returning thing?
Turns out it's a giant-sized one-shot.
My guess? Based on some tweeters, this will somehow connect to the Spider-Boy ongoing that's coming November. The first issue will be some standard fare and then WHAM! Spider-Ock shows up in the last page to make Bailey his ward or something.
Yes, because he's a boring Villain Sue that no one can take seriously.
Doc Ock is the world's 9th smartest man or so and Norman Osborn just gets by randomly getting named head of SHIELD.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Pffft, there's always something new with Norman Osborn and he's a more fitting arch enemy to Spider-Man. Like the whole point of the story at least according to Slott when he was done trolling was that Doc Ock isn't a Superior Spider-Man and losing to Green Goblin while Peter is able to beat him is symbolic. That's why it had to be Green Goblin to knock Spider-Ock off his high horse.
Heck, even Slott acknowledged Norman is top banana and had him be the final boss of his ten year run.
Norman didn't get the position randomly, he just took advantage of the enormous political clout he got after killing the Skrull Queen on live TV.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"It was the only part of Superior Spider-Man I hated.
Norman is such a gross and disgusting villain, I can't get any enjoyment out of his appearances.
Right now his "redemption" is showing why he's overused as well. Ever since he's returned, he steals the spotlight from better more interesting villains.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I think the ending of Superior wraps it all up very nicely, and I probably wouldn't have liked it if Otto stayed being Spidey after how those early issue went, and a large part of that was thanks to Norman.
Norman instantly knowing Peter was back sticks with me.

Nah this isn't a case of whose the stronger villain this is a case of.
Norman should be 6 feet under and the longer he's alive makes me question Peter's "moral code"
After all the heinous stuff Norman has done including killing Peter's own daughter Norman still breathing is absurd.
Giving me more credence that comic writers don't care about writing a good consistent story but obsessed with playing with their favorite toy.
Norman is that toy.

Ehhh, each to their own. I personally find Gold Goblin more compelling than Superior.
Like Ock did try to burn the whole planet out of spite. It’s all very relative on who you find the more disgusting villain.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"A million is a statistic simple as that.
What are the Joker's most heinous and talked about crimes.
Killing Jason
Crippling Barbara
Killing Lois and an unborn Jon Kent in Injustice
The Joker has done worse things with the last one being the catalyst to him nuking Metropolis. But no one remembers it because it's not personal and we don't know those characters.
Norman has killed alot of beloved characters (Gwen, Ben Reiley, Mayday and Flash)
The literal infant in pure premediation just to spite Peter. You don't come back from crimes involving kids.
It's why DC is now distancing themselves from Deathstroke because he was sleeping with an underaged Terra during the "Judas Contract".
Plus no one forced Otto to become moral with a literal sin erasure gun. He did so himself gradually while Peter's attempts to get his body back were ineffectual and no one in the avengers knew what was going on.

I think you misunderstand me. Doc Ock and Green Goblin are both objectively terrible people.
It’s all down to who you find more personally entertaining.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Even then I don't find Norman entertaining post his original run.
Aka the only stuff Sam Raimi adapted for the first movie
I hated him being brought into "fix" the clone saga
I despise everything he had to do with Sins Past
I rolled my eyes at him of all people getting the US government to let him make his own Dark Avengets. Giving more credence to say Civil War was the worst event comic Marvel has made
I saw his apprance in Superior then finnally Red Goblin as the final way to just kill him off. Which I called BS on him walking away "Thinking he's Cletus" after just killing Flash.
The most entertainment I've had with Norman outside of his waves meme is Willam Dafoe's return performance in NWH.
Like I said each to their own, I grew up with iconic stories like Revenge of the Green Goblin, Goblins at the Gate, the Marvel Knights one, and Dark Reign. And I personally think he's the guy who salvaged Superior Spider-Man from bad but kind of ironically enjoyable, to decent.
Plus he's already the perfect evil counterpart to Spider-Man compared to Ock, or Venom. That's what makes a great villain to hate.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"I really liked the Outsiders guide they did recently where they had Katana just flat out calls Deathstroke a predator and wondered what sickos blame a 16 year old being manipulated by an adult.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.

The funny thing is he has no reason not to quit
His healing factor means he can't get cancer
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
