This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

They do not no, their relationship obviously only worsened since, to the point Manta has actually made fun of him for it.
"Hey Mr. King of the Seas. I have a question, and I've been waiting a long time to ask for it. How's the wife and kid?"
To be clear about the mention of Manta's turn at being a hero, that was actually very recent. Its from only a year ago in Aquamen, before that in the literal decades between Manta killing Arthur's child and 2021-2022, Manta was pretty much treated as a Complete Monster rivaled only by the Reverse-Flash in pettiness.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."So how is Spider-Man relevant to this again?
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"There is at least one species of spider that lives underwater
, which will no doubt be the basis of a new Spider-Man enemy one of these days. That's something.
The symbiote's have gotta be the biggest case of executive meddling making a shit ton of money.
The black suit was supposed to just be Spidey's new hi tech suit but Todd Mc Farlane's love of the classic red and blue made Venom and the rest is history.
The black suit was made too convenient to get rid of
Although yknow coulda just introduced a new function where it can change colors
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI had heard the black suit was unpopular so the switch was made, but they kept it around as an alternate costume just in case.
The Protomen enhanced my life. The black suit's popularity has gone up and down thanks to weird timing. When it was first introduced everyone hated it... because Secret Wars hadn't explained the change yet.
As far as readers of Spiderman were concerned, they just see one issue end with Peter falling through a portal in his classic red and blues, only for the next issue to open with him falling out of a portal in this new black suit. The only explanation being a blurb saying 'Find out what happened in Secret Wars!'
But it took like a year before Secret Wars finally got to Peter getting the suit. So people hated the unexplained change at first only to have it grow on them over the months.
#IceBearForPresidentI'm catching up on Unlimited (through issue 23) and I gotta say, I actually like this run a lot. If you take a step back and stop caring about OMD and stop seeing bad things happening to Spider-Man as personal attacks on you, the reader, this can actually be a pretty fun reading experience. The art is great and Wells has told some pretty fun stories. I didn't like the event tie-ins very much, but I think the rest is pretty good.
I also had to go back and read 555-557, the arc that introduced Rabin, and I liked that one as well. "You are a painting on a cave wall" almost sounds like Wayep is leaning on the fourth wall a bit.
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]You know I'm surprised its never brought up as much but Gwen Stacy was introduced by Steve Ditko during the "If this be my destiny" storyline.
It's funny Gwen Stacy's death is all that the original character is remembered for that everyone forgets she debuted in one of the most iconoc stories as Peter's latest college enemy.
Side note they were really pushing Betty Brant as a love interest back in the day. Even having her dream that Peter would reveal himself as Spider-Man to her.
In hindsight I think that Ultimate/Insomniac MJ is really a composite of the two characters.
An intelligent career focused reporter woman (Betty) but also a snarky redhead that knows Peter's identity and supports him (MJ)
As Ultimate!Betty Brant barely had any role before dying. While she doesn't seem to exist in the Insomiac games.
Peter getting cucked by Norman (Gwen), Daredevil (Felicia) and Paul (MJ) is more memeable than him doing the same to Ned whose only recently became popular thanks to the MCU.
Honestly I think MCU is the only recent time we've had all of Peter's friends and love interests be put in the same age group sans Jessica Jones.
Usually Betty Brant is portrayed as much older when she was just a college dropout.
I mean, how many of those women was Peter actually dating at the time? His love interests may get back together with him at some point (that's comics), but when they're broken up, they're going to see other people (although Norman... oh dear. The retcon there was wise). Same as Peter does.
Yes, he's the hero, but it seems odd that people grumble about his supporting cast having in-universe lives of their own.
Even in Paul's and MJs case, it's not unreasonable for someone who's been isolated from their ex for years and isn't sure they'll even get back to the same world to move on. Even without the "only two adults in the world" stockholm syndrome thing.

Sure Mera is furious but she's not treated as a nagging wife, her fury is justified and this is basically what lead to her and Arthur separating for years.
And the story also has Aquaman being a huge fuck up, as his relationship with Aqualad was also severely strained. As when Manta forced the 2 to fight or else his son died, Aquaman with no hesitation turned his trident towards Garth, which wound breaching their previously close relationship.
That story majorly affected in a way that could never be reversed the status quo and setting of the characters for years (in-universe and out) as Arthur relationships with Mera and Garth was never the same.
