This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Everyone expects Spidey to be a genuis billionaire playboy philanthropist instead of a struggling bachelor living paycheck to paycheck.
Though honestly Spider-Man if allowed to grow up should become a tech billionaire just based on his web formula alone.
Like imagine how many police units would pay a fortune for web guns/rifles.

That aside, I personally prefer him as an average joe trying to make a living.
I don't really vibe with his MCU self for that reason. Spider-Man is one of the most identifiable members of the working class in fiction, and I find it suspect that Disney is making him part of the elite who goes on world tours and has a guaranteed job with Stark.
I have Batman if I want to read about a billionaire superhero who is street level.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"People don't want to see tech mogul Peter Parker but I think it could have been interesting to see how Peter's ethics run into what's necessary to run a big company.
Latter day Spider-Man 2099 did that with Miguel finding himself in charge of Alchemax, trying to make ethical choices and having his spider identity accused of being a corporate stooge because whoops he kept showing up to defend Alcehmax's interests
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm just tired of seeing Peter struggling financially as a guy with his intellect level.
Yeah I get it working class but theirs a limit when you have a guy that can make tracking devices, drones and emps with minimal tech struggle to make ends meet by selling pizzas or photos of his alter ego.
I know guys with half that technical skill make 6 figures as government contractors.
What I'm saying is Pater Parker should be asking Nick Fury if he's looking for a technician job.

that's literally Batman.

Peter's usual reason for not looking for a better job is that he wants to be able to run off at a moment's notice to Spider-Man. Laudable but it does mean that when Aunt May or Peter himself or whoever in his life is having economic difficulties he is making a choice to not be more financially reliable.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI have little sympathy at this point because he's been offered a karmic get out of spider-man free card and told someone else would step up and he's like nah I like being miserable.
And then five minutes later he got bodyjacked by Ock.
YOU GOT WHAT YOU ASKED FOR, PETE.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm reminded of Life of Reilly and how interviews mentioned that Mayday's fate was kept very ambiguous because nobody wanted to go down in history as the person who killed Spider-Man's baby.
Apparently Mark Millar didn't mind.
(Tried to find the issue that had Norman thinking about baby Mayday, learned that the fact that she was dead was first brought up in Marvel Knights Spider-Man written by Mark Millar. Not surprised he's the dude that would choose to kill the baby.)

Well, Mark Millar also thought that May should be Peter's biological mother from when she cheated on Ben with his dad. As a teenager, despite being an elder constantly on the verge of keeling over in Peter's own teen years.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonThere's a lot of character development that is both perfectly logical and supported by the fans that will never happen for certain comic book characters. Mostly because they need to still have stories written about them, and the higher-ups who own the IP are afraid of too much irreversible change. A character having kids probably gives some of them nightmares.

Meanwhile at DC: "Yeah, Superman and Batman are both dads and the fans love it. Heck, we aged up Superman's son and are sticking to it despite everyone begging us to undo it!"
Oh yes, definitely. Though in fairness, even he came to realize that Trouble was completely awful.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonThats the thing, isn't it?
Comic book kids will either be gotten rid of.
Like how Lyja and Johnny's egg turned out to be a space WMD. Vision and Wanda's kids turned out to be Mephisto's pinkies. Poor Mayday who is very definitely dead, boatmurdered even.
Or comic book kids will be sent to the phantom zone to age up.
Captain America's Ian Nomad. Cable. Billy and Quicksilver Jr technically. Franklin that one time and hell it happened to him twice. Cable again. Anime Parker got timeskipped into teendulthood once the writers got tired of her being a kid, like fools.
Kids aren't the problem. Kids that stay child aged are because they make the forever status quo too obvious.
I'm honestly surprised Gerry Drew and Dani Cage haven't had things happen to them so far.

Forever liveblogging the Avengers

I forget which issue, but some comic had Vulture be upset that Peter Parker was just an ordinary guy instead of some rich and powerful celebrity when he unmasked him.
