This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

The House of M reality was Wanda feeding off of Peter's guilt over losing loved ones, it wasn't a sincere reality. And the "What If..." of House of M ends with Peter and MJ having a kid who goes on to have a kid of her own.
Felicia doesn't have a lot of realities where she's endgame, even in the AU where she marries Peter, she isn't endgame, Sable is.

Granted that might not be the best idea. Those kinds of movie characters are largely popular because of their actors charisma.
You take away Zendaya and Michelle Jones loses a lot whats made her popular.
Similar to when Coulson made the jump to comics.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Spider-Boy ongoing from Dan Slott and Paco Medina
launches in November
@Zarius From what I've read, they had plenty of chemistry.
And nobody said anything about MJ not being capable, the problem was her supermodel job doesn't easily make for good storytelling for Spidey. Like, Lois as a hard-nosed reporter has generated stories for nearly 100 years — she gets in over her head in her quest for the truth, she uncovers something that Superman can investigate, she and Superman work together to beat the current Big Bad — but Mary Jane spent a lot of those marriage years just hanging around at home, or telling Peter to stop being Spidey, because a lot of writers just didn't know what to do with her.
It's not impossible for Mary Jane to get involved, but it often required jumping her through a lot of hoops to make it work.
No, they didn't have chemistry, and Carlie was continuously critical of Peter, and dropped him like a habit the minute she found out he was keeping his id from her and never opened up to her.
Ah so you're ANOTHER one who also buys into the LIE that "MJ worried about Peter at home" when there are several instances in the comics of her not doing that at all, and you're conveniently ignoring all the times in the stories where she told Peter to quit that she understood why he couldn't and continued to encourage him.
I love also how you ignore MJ's ACTING career and just laser focus on her supermodel gig, something which didn't even last very long in the books, you haven't read a lot of comics have you?
MJ's acting career has led to plenty of fun stories, particularly in the newspaper strip comics

Wasn't Carlie a self-insert for Quesada's daughter or something?
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI don’t know if Carlie Cooper is actually named after Quesada’s daughter or not. I’ve never seen a primary source, and where I used to hear this was among people trying to impugn Quesada’s character as a real-life person because he created OMD. So maybe it’s just a smear campaign? I have no idea. Anyone have sauce?
I've heard people speculating about it but no proof/source. If it's on TV Tropes at all maybe clean that up.

The Protomen enhanced my life.Anywhere Peter goes, there’s somehow supervillains that need punching.
Having MJ be an actor or whatever just doubles the number of people out there accidentally running into villain plots.
She got cast in a movie and it turned out that it was being directed by Magneto, staffed entirely with ex villains, and aggroed active villains.
It doesn’t matter whether MJ is an actor, reporter, nightclub owner, or grubhub delivery driver. She’s going to trip face first into nonsense because that’s what being a spider supporting character means
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI meant Mysterio and autocorrect got me again.
They should do an arc where Magneto makes a movie though.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHer Wikipedia entry cites Tom Brevoort confirming that she is
, although with a different spelling.

True, but there's an obvious contrivance there that becomes harder to ignore the longer it goes on, especially when it's all happening to one person. It's the same problem as the supermodel job; you have to bend over backward to justify why it's happening. Mysterio can't be directing every movie MJ auditions for.
Lois (or Sue Richards, or Linda West) can actually be seeking out the villains, which is not only more believable, but gives the character an extra level of agency.

Models, Inc. had some level of that, with MJ alongside Mille and Chili as amateur sleuths, iirc.
But you still hit problems if Spider-Man keeps getting drawn into whatever Peter Parker's girlfriend is doing. Which doesn't happen in the same way with Felicia, where the plot fuel is all about the problems with what she's doing.
This is a level of contrivance that spider man fans mostly already swallow without it even hitting the sides
So many people that Peter personally knows become supervillains or something. So much of it happens through the Daily Bugle.
Peter is a main character which means he is a crossroads of stuff constantly happening to him which means stuff happens to people near him so it can happen to him.
His first girlfriend had a brother who was a supervillain. His first boss created several supervillains. His editor had backstory with another supervillain. He was roommates with a supervillain. Multiple times. When he became a teacher whoops there was a supervillain there.
This kind of nonsense happening to MJ too is just how being a spider supporting character is.
Anyway, that’s only one facet. MJ doesn’t need to be bringing in new plots every day no matter what her occupation is.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think a comic that's actually an episode of MJ's show/movie could be fun. XD

Though most Spider-Man supporting characters have their prominence ebb and flow over time.
One of Peter's friends will turn out to be related to a supervillain or be mixed up in some bizarre criminal conspiracy, but once that particular storyline is resolved (for the time being), that friend will often fall by the wayside for a while. If they don't vanish from the book outright, they may end up only making very small, minor appearances without any great importance to the story.
Applying that same contrivance to someone who is consistently Peter's co-lead is a bit different.

And why does MJ need to have Lois Lane's job again? She's an actress as well as a model, she has range, and ASM#25 by Spencer shows just how strategic she can be with that occupation. great deal of the Spencer and Leah Willams era goes a great length to showcasing what MJ can do, she takes out the Savage Six, has Carlie done that? No. Carlie was constantly in over her head and suffered for it (Spider-Island and Superior)
