This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

He reminds me of the Sphinx from Mystery Men, whose whole shtick was being mysterious.
The Protomen enhanced my life.He was one of a number of characters created to pad out the Clone Saga at editorial insistence, along with Scrier and Gaunt. From what I understand none of them really had any purpose or logical endpoint to their stories beyond "keep the fans buying." Which became a problem when, of course, they actually did have to end the storyline.
So that's why they brought back Norman and revealed all of the above were puppets of him - he was deemed to be the one character enough of a convolution-addicted Diabolical Mastermind to even slightly have all of it make sense.
Plus Norman was the only one with any kind of motivation to do something like this to fuck with Peter.
Harry at that point was already dead and patched things up with Peter.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"And they'd just done a storyline where Harry fucked with Peter from beyond the grave so they couldn't do that again
Honestly though they should have just revealed it was all Jackal's plot to get Ben into the role of Spider-man because Ben was HIS creation so Jackal thought he was superior and also still wanted to get back at Peter
Couldn't be Ock because he'd died. Couldn't be Venom because the whole thing wasn't really his shtick. Hobgoblin had lost credibility by this point and wasn't even the master manipulator version at the time.
It really did have to be either Norman or having Jackal pull a "well actually all of those dumb plans I did were just smokescreen" which might have lacked the feel of a definitive answer because Jackal had lied so much.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYou know, I'm happy for people maybe getting new Mayday content, but honestly? Let someone else take a crack at her. I still think one of the biggest mistakes made with MC 2 was having De Falco write almost the entirety of it, rather than letting a bunch of writers play in the sandbox. And I think it'd be really interesting to see what one of the younger generation of writers - one who grew up on Spider-Girl - would do with the character.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Speaking of the Shocker, the Awesome page has this: "Herman Schultz is terrorizing the New York Stock Exchange when, in one of the more inspired moments of his criminal career, he points his vibro-smashers at a nearby broker. "Hey, you! The Shocker wants to be a millionaire... so hop to it!" The broker plays the market accordingly... and a few minutes later, the Shocker leaves the scene a million bucks richer."
The Protomen enhanced my life. That’s just a sightly smarter mugging. That stockbroker seems like he was the one having a moment of awesome. Managing to make so much money in so little time on the unpredictable stock market
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYou could also argue it's a moment for both.
The Shocker for not only thinking of it, but also choosing someone who was clearly either having a very good day, or is really good at the Stock Market, and the Stock Broker for just being able to play the Stock Market so well.
One Strip! One Strip!Agreed.
Both have their strengths and weaknesses.
Multiple writers can provide different perspectives and be willing to do more with characters that the main writer might not have any interest in.
While a single writer has consistency on their side. They know what they want to do (sometimes) and will can (in theory) ensure the plot doesn't go off the rails.
One Strip! One Strip!Tiamatty was also talking about the MC 2 in general.
Like a shared universe type of staff would have helped that corner of the MU expand better.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"
Exactly. Larry Hama did a few things here and there, but it was mostly De Falco.
Also, not for nothing, but younger writers would've been a huge boon to MC 2. MC 2 was an old dude trying to write a bunch of teens, and it felt like an old dude trying to write a bunch of teens.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.I think so, and the MC 2 was mostly Spider-Girl.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"I mean, people remember all the wrong things from the Ultimate verse, like Reed being a supervillain, Wolverine trying to sleep with underage red heads, cannibalism from Blob, incest between Pietro and Wanda, and Doom's shitty "Victor Van Damme" name to name a few.
It's just the Ultimate Spider-Man corner of the universe is the most well received.
Most people can't name anything about the non-Spider corner of the MC 2.

Also I should note that Judas Traveller is the Big Bad from the recently released novel Araña & Spider-Man 2099: Dark Tomorrow.
