This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Stating the obvious, but there are a lot of people on the planet who manage to have sex - and specifically sex with women - without that particular equipment. Or without it working. Including some historical eunuchs, who were very popular with ladies who couldn't risk pregnancy involving someone who wasn't their husband. It seems a weird thing to focus on, is all.

Nah the cure was needed as Sin's Past was straight up character assassination for Gwen Stacy especially after the excellent
Spider-Man Blue Mini Series that gave Peter closure on her death.
It was nothing more than a terrible story with a twist to shock Spider-Man fans and make them upset. JMS admitted so in a interview on why Quesada insisted Norman be the father of the twins instead of Peter.
A story so bad JMS wanted to retcon it with OMD but Quesada said no.
So I will take a Demon Possesed AI Harry convoluted clone and Mysterio in a wig prank on Norman to retcon a retcon out of existence.
As Sins Past was long overdue for the "get this crap outta canon" treatment.
I will die on this hill.
I've noticed that the Symbiote tends to have a healthier relationship with other characters.
Speaking of the symbiote, it looks like we're getting it in Insomniac's Spider-Man 2. And once again, the story will be based off the '90s animated version, by appearances.
...Man, nobody seems to remember that the symbiote was not a bad guy at first, do they? It only went crazy after attaching to Eddie Brock and apparently Deadpool now? That's a new retcon, I take it.
The symbiote being evil all along instead of just an alien that can't communicate its needs absolves Peter of blame is I think the thing.
The original story that originally got rid of the symbiote had it die to save Peter in one of those tragic oh no it wasn't all bad, maybe I misjudged.
Marvel has gone back and forth on whether Peter's rejection fucked up the goo or whether Eddie's hate poisoned it or whether the goo's hate poisoned Eddie. Depending on who we're making sympathetic right now.
The symbiote, for whatever reason, wasn't as talkative when Peter first had it compared to literally every other host where it chats up a fucking storm.
Maybe Eddie taught it English.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOh the problems from Early-Installment Weirdness.
Like the Symbiote was just meant as a new costume.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Which is why the Wasp is the mightiest of superheroes
She could change costumes at the drop of a hat
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe Flash and Thor probably tend to avoid weird lightning in case of wardrobe shifts.
I never really got that logic. Peter not wanting the symbiote to permanently bond with him is perfectly reasonable. You could keep the original story and still have Peter coming out the more sympathetic party.
the logic is that they want to make the symbiote more sympathetic
or maybe just shit on peter
"Felicia also believes Peter is afraid of commiting to her and tells him he's better off calling Mary Jane."
WTF
Cat calling the Spider black much??? Peter was not the one with commitment issues in that relationship, what the fuck is she on about.
This story just sounds vile.
On the black suit Felicia story
In universe Reed told Peter the suit was sentient and Peter freaked out ditched the suit nearly killing himself in the process but Venom legit loved him and saved him
So yeah Peter had "committment issues" from a matter of perspective which turned the symbiote into a yandere and later expanded upon that Peter's (and Deadpool's) jacked up mental state made Venom crazy.
But Black Cat is INFAMOUS for her unwillingness to commit to a serious relationship with Peter as she's only loved Spidey up until recently in the Wells' run. Heck in the Sony game universe she might be Peter's baby mama and still values stealing over a stable family life
So yeah this is more of Marvel comics unatural fixation on dogging Peter Parker
To think Venom the character only exists because Todd Mc Farlane hated the black suit that much he had to come up with a story to explain why Peter ditches the cool suit....
Peter does tend to be treated well out of the spider-brand.
Even the Venom series, the prior month's issue which has Eddie learning the role of the King in Black he realizes this was probably Peter's destiny all along.
Of which Eddie forlorns thinking that Peter would have made a far better Ki B than he is which the Ki B singularity agrees with.
What book is this in, anyway? I googled Edge of Venomverse and it's only showing me a series from 2017.
edit: Found it. Wow, that story seems absolutely spiteful. Felicia also manages to break into the Baxter Building and reprogram all its defenses to take out Johnny Storm? Lmao I love Felicia but that is absolute bullcrap. And they completely dump on Peter saying everything was his fault and the symbiote is fine on a willing host.
I'm especially sad because Black Cat bonding with the symbiote is a a what-if idea I'd been kicking around in my head because it'd make an interesting fork in the timeline and give Felicia a way to keep up with Peter / interesting to see how there dynamic would change through but this... this just sucks.

I've started realizing a pattern with Peter's various love interests
Gwen, MJ, Black Cat and Silk are written interesting initially and sometimes completely enamored with him (Silk)
Then later writers come on board and degrade the relationships to the point you wonder if some of these girls just straight up hate Peter. (Felicia and MJ)
....we all know what happened with Gwen. Whose now more popular and younger AU form is now Miles' primary love interest.
It's really just in the comics as the games, movies and cartoons really have the best parts of Peter's love life. Even if thing go sour they get better by the end. (Peter B. Parker in Spiderverse)
Heck even in that one Manga Spider-Man Fake Red they had Silk as Spidey's hyper competent sidekick looking for him. (Venom symbiote shenanigans) who had the hots for him but respected he was in a relationship with MJ and legitimately was concerned for his safety.
Todd McFarlane exposed for having bad taste
Also, Silk had a good interesting relationship with Peter? All they did was make out uncontrollably
Most people don’t consider Silk any good as a character until she was given space away from Peter
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

If a certain fan theory that he's a eunuch is true, he may not even have the option.
So basically, this is a story about two of Peter's exes hooking up.
