This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Oh God.
When an actual voice actress for Mary Jane spells out
how you're ruining Spider-Man, that HAS to be a sign that you're, spoiler alert, ruining Spider-Man!
OMD was seventeen years ago. There are fans reading Spider-Man now who weren't even born when that storyline was published, and have only seen the Spider-Marriage in back issues, alternate universes and adaptations.
I'd be really interested to see some demographics on the books' current audience.
And I'd be really interested to hear what those younger fans think about Peter's more recent stories, and whether or not they even care about Peter and MJ reuniting.
The saddest thing Is if said kids who play that game were to read these comics. They would be baffled as that game is much closer to how spiderman should be (harsh issues knock him down but hey never gives up and makes a difference and gets happy moments). Rather than this.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."The thing about marvel and Spider-Man especially is they love calling back to old stories, a bunch of which were during a time when Peter was married. We just got an event that was a sequel to Inferno not to long ago.
If this was a plain continuity reboot like something over at DC, it'd be one thing, but it's near impossible to read Spidey and not know about the marriage.
×2Not really, the same thing and Goku's characterization there is faithful to Toriyama's. Regardless, this isn't the thread for this discussion.
What's odd is that Peter is treated with more respect when he shows up in other books.

Reminded of that time Johnny Storm bemoaned Parker Luck meaning always being surrounded by attractive women and being a smart cool dude
Anybodys life is a step up for Hank Pym right now lol

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm on kind of a semi-sabbatical from the site righter now but I found something really interesting yesterday. So that Twitter post sent me down a rabbit hole - it was in reply to a long comment string about Kamala's death, which led me to a blog article about the same, which led me to several other articles including this curiosity from Tom Brevoort's blog
, which is to date the only explanation of the rationale for OMD I've seen that is a) directly from a Marvel employee, and b) contemporaneous with the comic itself, as it's from April 07.
In it, Brevoort outlines his opinions on why the retcon was for the best and why aging up Peter is a bad idea - basically, he views Spider-Man as a story about a young man trying to find his place in the world, and thus if you give him a stable place, you kill the main thrust of the story.
I disagree strongly with most of the points made, but I thought it was interesting to finally see an actual primary source on the decisions behind OMD, as opposed to apocrypha like "I heard Quesada thinks fans can only relate to Peter if his aunt walks in on him spanking it to internet porn" etc.

Okay but that doesn't explain why they now go out of Their way to make him a miserable loser. That kind of story does not work if he constantly gets beaten down.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I immediately raise my eye at the assertion that Batman is about revenge
He might be thinking of the Punisher.

spider-sense just shouldn't be able to be countered IMO
Spider-Sense seems similar to being able to sense Killing Intent.
If I wanted that I'd be reading the Book of Job, not Spider-Man.
Or Hulk's book.
