This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

Except it was in fact the case in the comics. She was forced to fight because Skrulls showed up at the intergalactic hoping she was in.
That's the first arc of the book and she gives birth in that same arc. She goes to that intergalactic hospital in the first issue.
She wasn't fighting super villains in the street, Porcupine was doing that, he took over her case while she was pregnant.
So again, it was in fact the case in the comics, she only fought because the Skrulls put her in a situation where she had to.

There's making your hero struggle and there's making your hero incompetent. Wells is doing the latter.
TFW you realize how true this is:
Anyway, a while back, I learned that not only does Wayeb not have a real-life counterpart, but that "Mayan language" Rabin would speak? Those are actually Norse runes.
...It isn't that hard to look up what Mayan text looks like, right guys?
But actually, thinking about it, a more decorated writer can take advantage of Wells' oversights and reveal that Wayeb is not a god, but some pretending demon that saw Rabin as a perfect drone, and Buluc Chabtan, the actual Mayan god of war, violence, human sacrifice and sudden and/or violent death (or maybe Cizin the god of earthquakes and regular death), decides they had enough and drops the hammer on Wayeb and Rabin on their blasphemy, killing them both so we don't have to hear about them again.

A good writer can take bad ideas, or bad set up, and make something great out of it. Even something like OMD can one day be used to examine Peter as a man who preaches responsibility but practices selfishness.
I have no faith that the current editorial or corporate staff will allow a good writer to write a good story, to support them, or even be allowed on the book in the first place.
Frankly I'm just waiting for someone to tell Zeb Wells that "Scarlet Women" the title for this "Mayan" Spider Totem prophecy Rabin is trying to sacrifice MJ for literally means whore.
And if he does know well given his run's entire plot is centered on MJ cheating on then leaving Peter for another man......
Cuz if it is the latter then Wells wrote a bs prophecy plot specifically for MJ to cheat on and leave Peter for his OC then have said plot call her a whore for it.
All so he could make his preferred Black Cat x Spider-Man canon
If that ain't Derailing Love Interests I don't know what is.
Pretty sure Marvel also has two other sets of Mayan gods running around as well.
- I think the Incredible Hercules tie-in to Secret Invasion established that the Mayan pantheon is on pretty good terms with the Eternal priest Ajak, who they asked to assist Hercules and punch Skrulls on their behalf.
- The "Mayan Rules" Red Hulk arc (post-Loeb) introduced a bunch of immortal imposters, the Mayapan, who were mutated by Terrigen and proclaimed themselves avatars of the various gods. They stole life and power from other superhumans to sustain themselves.
As mentioned above, there is plenty of scope for Wayeb to get written off based on that.
Given how scary Ajak is these days, it would be a proper Deus ex Machina if she walked into the end of a Spider-Man arc, announced that Itzamna sends his regards, and promptly splattered Wayeb all over the scenery.
But it would also be kinda satisfying, I suspect.
You know, at some point you'd think they'd just, IDK, stop putting her in the comics. They obviously hate her, and don't want her to be in it, just come up with a new excuse every few months (filming in LA, touring in Canada, visiting her estranged parents, whatever) instead of continually shoving their faces in the hornets nest.
Oh wait, that's right, people don't buy good stories anymore according to Marvel, they hatebuy controversial ones, I forgot.
They already (near) permanently killed one of Peter's girlfriends.
They don't seem to be willing to do it again. Probably because, in addition to MJ being bulletproof, the rest of the circumstances that let them kill Gwen (needing to kill an important character, lack of popularity, etc) just aren't there.
One Strip! One Strip!Gwen’s death was received with outcry and hate mail
So was the time marvel flirted with killing MJ
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI've seen that mentioned before, but wasn't there also a lot of people who were ok with it?
Whatever the case, the fact that they're not trying so hard to break Peter and MJ kinda means Gwen's death was extra pointlesss.
She died to make room for another character that they won't let Peter marry anyway, in addition to permanently ending any character development she could have.
One Strip! One Strip!I assume a lot of people were okay with it or could get over it considering Spider-Man has continually made ungodly amounts of money
As IP. Not the guy himself. He’s never even rolled around in a bathtub full of money, poor guy
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
I actually did think of that for a bit.
Where was his bathtub full of money there?
If he had it, where was it?
One Strip! One Strip! That makes sense, since he wasn't the one who actually built it.
I think he left Anna Maria to run it, since it was still partly her company...
...and as soon as he actually decided to start running it, Clone Conspiracy happened and the entire thing went tits up.
....Marvel, are you trying to say that Peter was a worse business man than Otto?
One Strip! One Strip! It's even harder to be seen as a good business man when everyone assumes you're already a corrupt asshole who needs to be taken down a peg.
Shakes head at poor Tony Stark.
But yeah, a lot of Peter's issues are his own mistakes, and the universe itself coming after him for every decision, good and bad.
One Strip! One Strip!Look I’m just going to assume based on nothing that Ock IS a better businessman than Peter
Because being a better businessman (if your goal is to make cash money) has nothing to do with being a good person and does have something to do with being a bit of a bastard. Even Ock trying to be a hero is a bit of a bastard.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

Yeah its clear that Jess in the film is choosing to engage in the action despite being in her third trimester. It appears to be completely voluntary.
Which the fact its spider-corps stuff makes it even worse since she's apart of an organization.
You'd think Miguel would have other spiders fill in her position for a while until she comfortably gives birth. This is why maternity leave is a thing.
