Spider-Man General Discussion

Go To

This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.

  • Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
  • Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
  • Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.

Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

     Original Thread OP
Since everyone likes talking about him. I know little about him(Ironically,I got nearly all I know about him from a Batman thread),but he's apparently important so I made this thread. Enjoy.

Does Mary-Jane and Black Cat have a trope page? I'd like to make one if not.

Apparently Mary Jane is on one of the covers to Amazing Spider-Man#27, one issue after the big death

Maybe they're going to kill Bailey. And then everyone will be very confused about the whole thing.

Amazing Spider-Man#25 has leaked in places

The kids are not MJ and Pauls', they are adopted. They know Rabin as the Scribble Man. When MJ and Paul travel back with Peter, MJ tells him she is involved with Paul and that she thought she'd never see Peter again, for her it's been five years

Again, per what Rabin said in the previews, it's becoming very clear that MJ is 'cursed' and burdened with a family through mystical means, the kids are no doubt the chains Rabin was referring to, so everything is out of MJ's hands. Much like OMD, Peter and MJ are unaware magic has played a hand in splitting them apart here, but we the readers have an insight into it. It also means the kids can be written out very, very quickly

That fits with a lot of the theories that readers have had. Good to have confirmation finally.

I just... really, really hope they don't outright kill the kids off. That'd be in really bad taste IMO.

I agree.

Though if Paul dies like so many people want, who's going to take care of them.

I mean, the Parkers have already had one child murdered at birth and another Cessation of Existence'd. I recently discovered to my horror that Ghost Rider and his former wife had twins... and they were Stuffed into the Fridge offscreen. Strewth! I'm honestly kind of surprised Tigra's son with the Skrull hasn't been killed or forgotten.

I just know some people are going to be pissed that those two kids are alive while 616 Mayday is dead.

Sounds like when Aquaman's toddler son was murdered.

What is it with comic book companies and killing children?

Kids make hip and cool superheroes old and boring.

That's not sarcasm, I'm pretty sure that's the actual reason.

Children make the sliding timescale awkward

Which is why they’re always being killed off or sent into the future to age up

The latter happens so much. Like dear god, so many children sent back to the future.

Speaking of children, Normie is still around, and I think he's 10.

Pretty awkward with the sliding time line. Peter is like 26 now right?

I'm not sure what if anything the actual scale of the sliding timeline is. I used to hear it was 4-to-1 (four real years equals one Marvel year) but I'm note sure if that's official.

I think the rule of thumb is that the start of the marvel universe - FF 1 - is always about fifteen years ago.

I actually have an account on a site where you can ask the Marvel continuity people questions. I'll see if I can find out anything there.

Ask how Normie is ten years old when Peter is around 26 years old and the boy was born during the college era.

Lately, more heroes are in a rather vague age range, really, and have been active for a rather nebulous amount of time. It makes it look like the big crossover events are a monthly thing in-universe, too.

Wake me up at your own risk.

Spider-Man has gone through so much shit that at the very least, he should be 30 if we want to cram in all these events to make sense timeline wise.

Normie's aging in Renew Your Vows was just as weird, he was still a kid when Peter and MJ were canonically 40 years old with young Annie.
